Here in Canada it's very hard to find phones for sale off contract. So what I have had to do is sign up with one of the providers here so I can get the phone, and then cancel. It takes a hit on my credit score and it's a total pain, however my other options are not as good and I would wind up with an inferior phone.
iPhones are really nice but I find them overpriced. Also I find the screen on the regular iPhones is too small, and then if you get the "plus" the phone is absolutely huge. The G5 is a lot smaller in the hand compared to the "plus", and it has a similar screen size (5.3" vs 5.5"). My vote is for the G5 if you can get a good deal on one. I expect the G6 to come down in price by around Black Friday.
