The Z170 platform has some nice motherboards and features but the 6700k is more expensive than the 5820k.

But Broadwell is compatible on the same socket, on X97 mobos.. so why not Broadwell-E on X99 LGA-2011?
If you just want the gaming throne for now, while sticking to 4c/8t cpus, just go with the ordinary Broadwell.. which is FASTER than Skylake for most games out there, despite lower clocks (and overclocking the Broadwell all the way from 3.4 to 4.2GHz makes it that much faster than Skylake oc'ed to 4.6-4.7GHz). Yep, the Crystal Well is magic for some games.. Would we really be seeing Broadwell-E's though, anyway? I think Intel might just move onto Skylake-E, and continue on without the L4 edram cache for enthusiast 6-8 core CPUs.
BTW, are you talking about B&M Microcenter for the 5820K at $300? It's like at least $380 everywhere else.
