No, my numbers are accurate. I did the mortgage calculator on the house, and used a 5% interest rate on the car. I pay $30-$40mo on car insurance, anyone else should as well.
I also noted outside of cities. Chicago is an expensive place to live.
As such, no clue why you live there.
If you and your wife moved to a place like Plover, WI and could put together a $55k income (maybe you earn $40k and she earns $15K part time) you could live a MUCH better life.
My wife goes to Michigan Avenue to shop, and I work in Chicago on occasion. I've also been to Plover. Given the choice of living in Plover on a modest income or Chicago, wouldn't even be a choice for me. You have to be pretty well off to live the good life in Chicago, in Wisconsin you can live the good life and be pretty average.

I am not in Chicago anymore, in Indianapolis. The apartment complex requires a $300,000 insurance policy so that along with our car insurance is $200 a month and last month when my van had it's side window smashed and robbed found out the policy doesn't cover any of my contents in the apartment or vehicles. The insurance guy said we would have to itemize all contents we have and add yet another policy and it would be another $200 a month.
