EA Phenomic studio is closed
EA Phenomic is now a casualty in the ongoing internal restructuring of EA. EA Phenomic was behind titles like Spellforce and Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances.
The studio was based in Ingelheim am Rhein, near Frankfurt, Germany. At it’s highest point the studio had 60 employees.
According to gamesindustry.biz, EA would not comment on the matter, but had this to say about the situation:
As part of EA’s realignment in recent weeks, we have announced internally a small adjustment to some development staff to better focus our teams against priority growth areas. The decision to let people go is not something we take lightly and we are working to ensure that impacted employees are treated fairly and with respect for their contributions to EA, and with assistance to find other job opportunities.
These are hard but essential changes as we focus on delivering great games and showing players around the world why to spend their time with us
In the same interview, EA said the studio closing does not mean that EA will move away from free-to-play or strategy games.
EA Phenomic, which was established as “Phenomic Game Development” in 1997 by Volker Wertich, is primarily behind RTS games.
The game Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances once enjoyed 1 million players. EA Phenomic also worked on: Lord of Ultima, BattleForge, Spellforce 2, Siedler 3 and more.
