Engadget + gdgt San Diego Wrap-Up
Voted as San Diego’s best nightclub of 2012, Stingaree hosted Engadgdet+gdgt Live! this past Friday. This venue has three equally beautiful stories and they packed all the sponsors into their separate areas nicely. The event had booths featuring products and upcoming gadgets from Cooler Master, Outlook, Nokia, Cobra Electronics, D-Link, Dropcam, Escort, GoGo, HeartMath, Incipio, iRobot, Logitech, MyIDkey, Phiaton, Seidio, and Western Digital.
As part of the media, ABT was able to enter the event while there was only very few others in the building at 6 PM. By 7 PM, this three story nightclub, was totally packed with visitors waiting around the block outside just to enter. The over-21 environment was fun and this event served as a nice side event for those attending the San Diego Comic-Con.
Engaget was a way for the public to easily get their hands on the latest products . . . and gadgets. Basically though, the event was just cool gadgets, drinks, and fun which we weren’t complaining about!
Let’s take a look at some products shown at the event.
Logitech
A major focus of the Logitech booth was their new Logitech G-Series. The Logitech G-Series is a gaming line with some pretty cool looking keyboards and a new series of mice.
The G710 Plus Mechanical Gaming Keyboard features whisper-quiet keys, which we love, coupled with the precision of mechanical keys for gaming. The G710 Plus features adjustable dual-zone backlighting. This means the entire keyboard is LED lit in white and adjustable to four different levels, and the WASD and arrow keys can be independently adjusted.
The keyboard felt comfortable and easy to use. The G710 also has a scrollable volume controls, six programmable macro keys, a game mode switch, 26-key rollover, 110 anti-ghosting keys and more.
The G500S Laser Gaming Mouse was another feature product at the Logitech Booth. It features weight and balance tuning, dual-mode scroll wheel, in-game sensitivity switching, 10 programmable controls and more. The G500S fit perfectly in hand and the adjustable weight and in-game sensitivity switching alone make it an exciting product.
Other products showcased at the event were the, Bluetooth Speakers Z600, Logitech Zone Touch Mouse T400, and the 360 degree sound Ultimate Ear speakers.
Cooler Master
Cooler Master had a booth on the third floor of the venue and was showcasing its newest stands and docks for the iPad and iPhone among mobile accessories and products. The product that stood out to us most was the DUO. It is a dual iPad and iPhone dock and stand.
Cooler Master was nice enough to give ABT a review sample as well – expect a review soon!
The NotePal X3 was also showcased and it was very nice. For a gamer with a laptop up to 17”, this laptop cooler is the perfect solution. It features a 200mm fan with a Blue LED and multiple USB ports and controls.
Other products showcased include: Jas Pro, Ren, Wave Stand and others.
Seidio
Primarily a mobile accessory company, Seidio was another favorite booth of ours. They showcased their newest iterations of cases for both Android and Apple products. Seidio even brought an aquarium with them and had their devices completely submerged and working with the case on.
A standout would have to be their water proof case named OBEX – Latin for “barrier.”
The case “utilizes technology that is IP68 certified to protect us from dust and complete submersion in up to 2 meters of water.”

Another case named ACTIVE was at the Seidio booth and it was a standout immediately. Made from durable and shock-absorbing polymer, the case wasn’t bulky and it felt like a quality case. The materials gave enough protection and grip without adding a lot of bulk to the iPad it was showcased on.
Other products shown include the Ledger, Surface, and others.
Nokia
Nokia definitely had a lot of buzz surrounding them at the show by showcaseing their newest line of phones in the Lumia lineup. Among the most talked about devices at the show was the new Nokia Lumia 1020.
One word defines the phone: Amazing. The device was beautiful and is definitely a major upgrade from the 920. The device is impressive and boasts some incredible specs. People at the show were genuinely amazed and excited about the device after using it and so were we.
The device has a 41 megapixel camera with PureView Technology and Optical Image Stabilization. Nokia is also “reinventing:” zoom:

Using the Windows 8 OS felt super responsive. The phone was snappy and launched any application or transition quickly.
The device also comes with MS office, Nokia music and free voice guided navigation. More specs for the Nokia Lumia 1020 are below. The Nokia Lumia 1020 is available for pre-order now for $299 in yellow, black or white. The device wil be on the AT&T network and the Microsoft Store.
Western Digital
Western Digital even had talking troll-dolls:
“Before you load it, back it up on a Western Digital Drive”
Western Digital featured their new wireless back-up for Android and iPad as well as their portable storage. We like Western Digital and we look forward to reviewing their products at ABT.
Great products, a great club vibe, good drinks, and cool people – that describes Engadget+gdgt San Diego for us. We can’t wait to attend the event again next year! Reminding us that San Diego is a city right on the Coast, even the birds couldn’t stay away!
