FarCry2 “Broken Drivers” Follow-Up [Update: New hotfix driver released!]
We got some responses and a few questions from our investigation into the broken Cat 8-10 hot fix drivers, yesterday found here: http://www.alienbabeltech.com/?p=890
Best of all, there is evidently a quick response coming from AMD itself in the form of a new hotfix! There was a question if the issue is “only rocks’. No. Here is another example. All anyone needs to do is walk around and look at the ground – I found this in about one minute. Just remember to keep your eyes open for snipers!
Both pics are taken from the same PC, same Radeon HD4870/1GB at 19×12 with identical [ultra] settings; no AA/AF this time.
The good news to report, acording to HardOCP’s editor, KyleB, is that AMD plans to fix their bugged hot fix for FarCry2!!

Specifically from a post by the Catalyst Maker:
Yeah. I am aware. We had a guy fix it over the weekend and I am getting it in the hotfix driver I referenced below. Should be live today or tomorrow.
Legitimate bug. |
So it appears that we may get some relief from AMD soon. We did not speculate on the “why”. It is possible that ATi could be aggressively optimizing the vertex mesh, which would cause that sort of misplaced collision trouble and could also cause texture distortions since the texture is being overlaid onto a different mesh than what it as designed for. A legitimate bug. Whatever it is/was, it is getting addressed. And in future, we will be glad to let our readers know whenever something comes to our attention that detracts from your game play – no matter from what source. We are gamers.
