Western Digital today announced the availability of a 8TB model in its ShareSpace series of NAS’s. WD promises up to 30 percent faster transfer speeds, and DLNA media streaming capabilities. The included WD Anywhere Backup software provides automatic and continuous protection for the valuable data from every PC and Mac on the network. Other specs include gigabit Ethernet, RAID 0/1/5 capabilities, an email alert system in case failure is imminent, iTunes server for centralized shared music, a trio of USB 2.0 sockets and a built-in FTP server. It makes use of Four 2TB WD Green Hard Drives which feature 4 500GB platters to reach the 2 TB mark.
