{"id":14716,"date":"2010-01-22T00:41:05","date_gmt":"2010-01-22T00:41:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=14716"},"modified":"2010-01-22T00:45:01","modified_gmt":"2010-01-22T00:45:01","slug":"amd-posts-its-first-quarterly-profit-in-3-years-due-to-1-25b-intel-payment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/amd-posts-its-first-quarterly-profit-in-3-years-due-to-1-25b-intel-payment\/","title":{"rendered":"AMD posts its first quarterly profit in 3 years &#8211; due to $1.25B Intel payment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\ngoogle_ad_client = \"pub-7021221536180758\";\n\/* 468x60, created 11\/11\/09 *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"1949837292\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 60;\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><script src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p>AMD\u2019s conference call was at 2 PM Eastern today and the financial results of the fourth quarter of 2009 are made public <a href=\"http:\/\/ir.amd.com\/phoenix.zhtml?c=74093&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1377777&amp;highlight=\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/ir.amd.com\/phoenix.zhtml?c=74093&amp;p=irol-newsArticle&amp;ID=1377777&amp;highlight=', 'here']);\" >here<\/a>.\u00a0 According to today\u2019s report, AMD reported revenue for the fourth quarter of 2009 of $1.646 billion, an increase of 18 percent compared to the previous quarter and 42 percent compared to the fourth quarter of 2008.\u00a0 Specifically this works out as a fourth-quarter profit of $1.18 billion (+$1.52 a share) compared with a loss of $1.44 billion, (-$2.36 a share) for the same quarter a year earlier.\u00a0 However, they acknowledge that this was due to a one-time payment of $1.25 billion by rival Intel Corporation to settle their legal disputes.<\/p>\n<p>AMD admitted that it would have lost money were it not for the massive payment it received from Intel.\u00a0 After adjustment, they actually posted a loss of 8 cents a share and they project a loss for the next quarter although they believe their overall financial picture is improving.\u00a0 They also appeared to benefit from generally improving conditions in the overall PC market.
