{"id":20560,"date":"2010-09-15T20:09:02","date_gmt":"2010-09-15T19:09:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=20560"},"modified":"2010-09-15T21:14:16","modified_gmt":"2010-09-15T20:14:16","slug":"batman-game-of-the-year-edition-supports-in-game-anti-alising-for-radeons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/batman-game-of-the-year-edition-supports-in-game-anti-alising-for-radeons\/","title":{"rendered":"Batman Game of the Year edition supports in-game Anti-Aliasing (MSAA) for Radeons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We polled our own <a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/abt\/viewtopic.php?f=6&amp;t=21794\">forum<\/a> and did a bit of quick checking around when we realized that <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum &#8220;<\/em>Game of the Year<em>&#8221; <\/em>(GotY)<em> <\/em> edition supports in-game anti-aliasing (MSAA) for Radeons.\u00a0 Evidently this isn&#8217;t generally known nor has it been tested widely.\u00a0\u00a0 So, we plan to remedy this in a future short ABT article reviewing the game.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/batmanaa_25x16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/batmanaa_25x16.jpg?resize=553%2C346\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This added in-game MSAA support for Radeons came to our attention after we published our <a href=\"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=20306&amp;page=19\">Introducing Galaxy\u2019s GTS 450 SuperOverclock<\/a> review and especially page 19 that benchmarked <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum.<\/em> As we pointed out, <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum <\/em>uses a highly modified version of the Unreal Engine 3 that does not support AA natively but must be added in and supported by the game\u2019s developer.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately we cannot compare <em>Batman: Arkham Asylum<\/em> using our GeForce exactly against the Radeon with AA enabled on both cards &#8211; on the regular game.\u00a0 The reason is that we need to set anti-aliasing in the ATI control panel to use it at all with our AMD Radeon video cards. Of course, if we do that, we will get a higher performance penalty with this \u201cbrute force\u201d AA enhancement than we will with a comparable Nvidia video card as the GeForce is optimized to run with AA in-game by the developer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/batmanhd5870_set.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/batmanhd5870_set.jpg?resize=440%2C326\" alt=\"\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, AMD&#8217;s own press deck for HD 5770 points this out:<\/p>\n<p><em> <\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em> <\/em>Batman Arkham Asylum debuted on PC in September of 2009 and received favorable reviews. Following up on that success, a \u201cGame of the Year Edition\u201d version of the game was released in early 2010.
