These usually include exceptional products to cool your CPU, your video card and to make your case air flow more efficient. Some of the time your memory ends up being the forgotten soldier in your unit. However, you can help stay cool under fire with the <strong>Kingston HyperX Fan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border: 0px initial initial;\" title=\"HyperX_Fan_Black\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/HyperX_Fan_Black_thumb.jpg?resize=400%2C310\" border=\"0\" alt=\"HyperX_Fan_Black\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Inside a computer, the memory modules are probably the most sensitive to error or to get damaged due to heat. This is the primary reason for considering active cooling on memory instead of just using heat spreaders and cooling fin designs.<\/p>\n<p>The HyperX Fan originally came in a blue colour and Kingston has now released the black version being featured here today. A lot of enthusiasts just simply prefer black for their PC components, so this is a good move by Kingston. Featuring a standard 3-pin plug, it can be plugged onto a fan header directly and controlled by the motherboard settings or into a fan controller terminal and adjusted from there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/BoxContents.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Box Contents\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/BoxContents_thumb.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Box Contents\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the package you get the HyperX fans, two side plates with four thumb screws to attach them and the installation guide. The installation guide is very clear and in a few short steps you will be up and running.<\/p>\n<p>Please note however, that the unit fits perfectly over four slots. However, the results of my testing will satisfy any category of end user. The probe was used to collect the temperature data throughout the testing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Testing4.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Testing - 4\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Testing4_thumb.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Testing - 4\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Conditions<\/span><\/p>\n<p>All testing was done during normal daytime conditions. The ambient temperature was a nice, warm 28\u00b0C throughout the test period.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Testing1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Testing - 1\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Testing1_thumb.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Testing - 1\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Methodology<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The temperatures were recorded manually by noting the highest (peak) temperature reached during the test run. The tests themselves are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Idle<\/strong> \u2013 Idle tests were done at the desktop with no programs running and the lowest temperature noted after 10 minutes of inactivity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Synthetic<\/strong> \u2013 The Synthetic test consisted of running the Cache and Memory Benchmark from SiSoftware Sandra 2011 Engineer Edition.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Real<\/strong> \u2013 The Real World test consisted of running the Crysis GPU benchmark in DX10, Very High, 8x AA at 1366&#215;768 resolution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Having both synthetic and real world tests included gives a more realistic look at how the cooler will actually perform across the various tasks that the average user would undertake.<\/p>\n<p>Tests were conducted in three stages and they are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Stock<\/strong> \u2013 Stock settings were taken as 800MHz with 1.85V.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Overclocked<\/strong> \u2013 Overclocked settings were taken as 1000MHz with 2.05V.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Max OC<\/strong> \u2013 Maximum Overclock settings were taken as 1080MHz with 2.25V.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Seeing as though only an increase in voltage really affects changes in RAM temperature, these settings were enough to show obvious increases from one stage to the next.<\/p>\n<p>Temperature readings were gathered by securing the temperature probe to the heat spreader of one of the memory modules, using a piece of tape.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Testing3.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Testing - 3\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Testing3_thumb.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Testing - 3\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Limitations<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The only limitation in this test setup came from the memory itself. The memory modules used are rated to run at 800MHz. Without the cooler, the highest really stable clock increment was 1000MHz. They were unable to attain 1066MHz, after topping out at 1040MHz stable.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"Testing - 2\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Testing2_thumb.jpg?resize=400%2C300\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Testing - 2\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The HyperX Fan had a say in the matter as you will see after the jump.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><!--pagetitle:Test Results--><\/p>\n<p><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\n    google_ad_client = \"pub-7021221536180758\"; \/* 468x60, created 11\/11\/09 *\/ google_ad_slot = \"1949837292\"; google_ad_width = 468; google_ad_height = 60;\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><script src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\">\n<\/script><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Test Results<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The results were very conclusive and even a bit surprising. The impact that the HyperX Fan has on the temperatures is unquestionable. Logic and reasoning will tell you that this would happen but I was very pleased to see how very different the temperatures were.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"HyperX Fan - Temperature Readings\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/HyperXFanTemperatureReadings.png?resize=586%2C694\" border=\"0\" alt=\"HyperX Fan - Temperature Readings\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It is clear as day how well this cooler performs but let us break it down a bit.<\/p>\n<p>First without the cooler. The memory idled 6\u00b0C above the ambient temperature. When put under synthetic testing it rose from 34\u00b0C to 42\u00b0C and then to 44\u00b0C under the real world test. 44\u00b0C was also the maximum when overclocked. This was just 1\u00b0C higher than the synthetic benchmark. The shock was that the idle temperature was a very warm 41\u00b0C!<\/p>\n<p>Now for a good surprise. With the HyperX Fan installed, at no time did the temperature reach that level. The maximum was 38\u00b0C overclocked. The synthetic test peaked at 36\u00b0C; just 1\u00b0C above where it idled. Back to the stock 800MHz, the cooler allowed the RAM to idle at 33\u00b0C, just 5\u00b0C above ambient. A maximum stable overclock of 1080MHz was achieved. The HyperX Fan is a simple but well thought out product that does exactly as advertised. Memory modules stay cool and even overclocking headroom is improved due to lower temperatures. What you get in this package is the peace of mind that your RAM will be safe from extremes of heat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/HyperX_Fan_Kit.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"HyperX_Fan_Kit\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/HyperX_Fan_Kit_thumb.jpg?resize=400%2C260\" border=\"0\" alt=\"HyperX_Fan_Kit\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kingston already had a winner in blue and then they gave their customers a choice. The black version of the HyperX Fan fits in with just about any theme for any enthusiast and with the right purpose in mind. The possibility of providing additional overclocking headroom is an added bonus to the already great value of this US $23 product.<\/p>\n<p>The Kingston HyperX Fan gets my recommendation without even making me think twice.
