<\/em><\/strong>Genius is a company founded in Taipei, Taiwan in 1983 that is looking to break into the U.S market and they are doing so in a big way. Their vision is to \u201cCreate Infinite Value with a Magic Touch.\u201d \u00a0The products we have received from them come in excellent packaging, support is top of the line, and quality is evident from the first use. Genius is looking to create an agile and wireless world that is free and looks good doing it. The two products in this evaluation are just a taste of their innovation and quality.<\/em><\/p>\n

Here is a two product review of Genius’ hardware. We begin with:<\/em><\/p>\n

Genius’ HS-i220: Noise Isolation Headset with Apple Control <\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n

AlienBabelTech editors love music as much as the next person, and we also love quality. \u00a0The earbud\/headphone market is flooded with manufacturers trying to sell their own brands. Most Smartphones come pre-packaged with some form of them, including the main company to do so, Apple. \u00a0Its OEM earbuds have always been this editor’s personal favorites since they have some great sound to them and also look. However, they\u00a0 aren’t the best in their price range. \u00a0Apple’s build quality tends to be good but their headphones always seem to break down after heavy use. With Genius’ HS-i220 you get what this company promises, quality<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Features:<\/span><\/strong><\/h3>\n

-Remote Control with mic allows you to adjust volume,<\/p>\n

-Control music and answer calls.<\/p>\n

-3 rubber ear caps for different ear sizes<\/p>\n

-Gold plated 3.5mm connector\"\"<\/p>\n

Ergonomically designed to reduce background noise\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\"\"<\/em><\/p>\n

When comparing the HS-i220 to the standard white Apple headphones, these have a similar if not better quality feel to them and the packaging is standard and easy to open. The HS-i220s vary in price, the cheapest being about $35. \u00a0Apple’s OEM headphones cost about $29.99 at Amazon.<\/p>\n

Genius’ obvious build quality alone is worth the extra five dollars. The headphones feel good to hold and to have in your ears. The three interchangeable rubber ear caps allowed us to find the perfect fit, unlike Apple’s which hurt after a while and which also fall out easily. I have gone through many Apple headphones; they consistently fall apart after a couple of months of use. \u00a0 In contrast, the Genius’ HS-i220 headphones are a great build quality and they sound better. \u00a0I always stood by Apples OEM headphones, but they are simply not the best.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

What about sound? Apple’s packaged headphones have always had good sound, clarity, and look. The HS-i220 by Genius are no different; they offer clarity with great sound. I heard some sounds that I could not hear with the Apple headphones on lower setting that were clearly audible with the HS-i220 earbuds. They are not noise-cancelling<\/em> but instead they isolate<\/em> what you are hearing from the outside world and we actually prefer this approach to being deaf to the outside world.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Hs-i220 in white<\/p>\n

The sound isolation of the HS-i220 contributed to some great sounding music, podcasts and phone calls. This is also true with Apples earbuds but what if you\u2019re in a very loud place?\u00a0 With Apple, you are almost forced to raise the volume to the maximum to drown out the outside noise, while the HS-i220 allowed us to enjoy what we wanted to hear without being forced to max out our volume.<\/p>\n

Speaking of volume, using Apple’s earbuds you have to search for the smaller control buttons but on Genius\u2019 ear buds they are bigger and a lot easier to press. By using the Apple-style control buttons that are built in, you can easily feel for the buttons without looking and press them to:<\/p>\n

– Answer and end calls by using the middle button<\/p>\n

– Change the song playing with a double-tap of the middle button<\/p>\n

– Change volume with the +, – buttons<\/p>\n

– Long press the middle button to access Siri or Voice control<\/p>\n

Our main complaint is with the color of the earbuds as there are only two to choose from: White with green lines, or black with yellow lines. There is no variety, and if you don’t like these color combinations, they aren’t for you. The HS-i220s aren’t studio quality headphones, but for their price, they do a good job. \u00a0Bass lovers won’t get too much out of Hs-i220s.<\/p>\n

Hs-i220\u2019s feel comfortable and have great sound. All genres of music sound good and don\u2019t overpower the earbuds. We rarely set these to the max because it just wasn\u2019t necessary, even with volume near half in a busy mall we could hear the music perfectly. That goes for calls as well, on both sides calls were clear and sounded the same as if you were holding a phone to your ear.<\/p>\n

Pros:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

– Same price range as Apple OEM headphones while offering more bang for the buck<\/p>\n

– Noise Isolation, with great sound at all levels<\/p>\n

– Bigger Apple-style Control button<\/p>\n

– 3 sizes of earbud caps to choose from<\/p>\n

Cons:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

– \u00a0Only two color schemes to choose from<\/p>\n

– Not a lot of bass offered, but enough to enjoy music without overpowering<\/p>\n

– The cord could be a little longer, but it doesn\u2019t feel cheaply made.<\/p>\n

It works fluidly once you learn its very basic and intuitive control system. You can talk while scrolling through web pages, or clicking through a presentation while being completely hands free. \u00a0Your finger does all of the work.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Ring Presenter\u00a0is simple yet great.\u00a0 The top of the device features a cursor surrounded by four D-pad style buttons. The touch-sensitive controller can allow you to browse web pages easily while the D-pad style buttons acts like the left and right\u00a0 buttons of a mouse. When in its different modes, the D-pad buttons have multiple functions.<\/p>\n

This took some getting used to as having the mode wrong can make you fumble with the device. If you’re not paying attention and have it in the wrong mode you might right click instead of moving towards the next slide. However, control problems are quickly remedied by Genius’ simple and elegant design.\u00a0 It took me maybe five minutes to use the device without reading the instructions to get most of its uses down, and I was a pro within ten minutes.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The touch cursor is far more sensitive than your average touchpad and a simple stroke will send the cursor across the screen. It just takes small, easy touches to control the device. It’s fun to use!\u00a0 Genius\u2019s Ring Presentor also has a cheap and affordable price : $69.99 at (Amazon)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If you search Google for a “power-point remote controller”, the competition are expensive and large devices that do not offer half of the versatility or elegance that the Genius Ring Presenter offers. \u00a0Genius includes a travel pouch, Ring Presenter, driver and program CD, and documentation. A regular user of PowerPoint\/projectors will find extreme value with the Ring Presenter.<\/p>\n

Functions<\/strong><\/h3>\n

When in presentation mode, during PowerPoint, clicking the left button will return to the previous page. The top button will \u201cPlay\u201d the PowerPoint file and pressing it again will exit the file. Pressing the right button will go to the next power point page. Pressing the center cursor button will act as the mouse left button or cursor control by moving your thumb on the center.<\/p>\n

In mouse mode, the left button will switch between cursor and scroll mode. The top button will act as the middle mouse function. The right button will act as the right mouse function.<\/p>\n

This does take some getting used to, but soon we were browsing the web and presentations were a breeze. You could sit back and never have to touch a mouse, which is normally essential during profession presentations. Having to constantly click on the buttons or hunch over a computer is now a thing of the past. \u00a0I now use the Ring Presenter even when I want to watch Netflix on my PC, or listen to iTunes. When having other things to do, I never have to go back to my desk to use the mouse or keyboard.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The bottom D-pad button also works as the Laser-pointer in all modes and it \u00a0reaches up to 10 meters. During presentations, having the ability to have a mouse and a laser pointer literally at your fingertips is innovative and smart, and you will also look good using the Genius Ring Presenter.<\/p>\n

The Ring Presenter is available in seven colors: Blue, Gold, Pink, Purple, Green, Black and Silver.<\/p>\n

The Ring Presenter design is sleek and the device is very light-weight. Genius shows its promise to be beautiful again with Ring Presenter. We look forward to evaluating more of Genius’ products in the future. They are coming into the American market full-force with their product line. Value, elegance and fun is what I experienced when using the Ring Presenter. \u00a0It is a no-brainer for teachers, business workers \u00a0and professionals who need to present. The Ring Presenter keeps you from ever touching your PC during a presentation and allows you complete focus.<\/p>\n

– Might be pricey for those looking for a simple slide changer, but there is major value here<\/p>\n

– It may take some getting used to the controls<\/p>\n
