I guess it&#8217;s pretty serious.\u201d<\/em> <strong>\u2013 Simone, <em>\u201cFerris Beuller\u2019s Day Off<\/em>,\u201dParamount (1986)<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Bet you\u2019ve said (or heard it said), <em>\u201cKids today have it so good.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Every generation says the same thing because they\u2019re not dragging a bunch of experience and habits into the next century.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up, the \u201cboob tube\u201d was the cheap babysitter that people said would rot your brain.<\/p>\n<p>Our kids don\u2019t really think about the TV set, they think about video content and entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Our daughter takes photos\/videos at school, comes home, uploads them to YouTube and Skypes with friends from all over.<\/p>\n<p>Our son mixes his own music videos, loads them to a variety of sites, including artistserver.com.<\/p>\n<p>They both enjoy content almost constantly, moving effortlessly between their smartphone, iPad, computer, family room TV.<\/p>\n<p>It just doesn\u2019t matter to them&#8211;content is content. Entertainment is entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding the content need we agree with Ferris<em>, \u201c<\/em><em>You&#8217;re not dying, you just can&#8217;t think of anything good to do.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s more than enough to choose from today.<\/p>\n<p>YouTube recently announced that more than 72 hours of video content is uploaded to the site every minute\u2026jeezz!<\/p>\n<p>No wonder networks, stations are struggling.\u00a0 Most of the content is free.\u00a0\u00a0 Most of it is pretty darn good.<\/p>\n<p>Our flat screen is connected to the Internet and it\u2019s refreshing to watch stuff like TED that makes you think.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Multi-Viewing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sure, the kids will watch the TV (sometimes), but they\u2019re also watching something else on their iPad or smartphone, sometimes both.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-30389\" title=\"Untitled-2\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-24.jpg?resize=258%2C356\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-24.jpg 258w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-24-217x300.jpg 217w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 258px) 100vw, 258px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>It\u2019s All Entertainment \u2013 <\/strong>Listen to the TV, laptop, tablet, smartphone people and associated analysts and they\u2019ll all say folks consider their device as the entertainment delivery solution of choice. The truth is people are using all of the entertainment devices and often they\u2019re using two or more all at the same time. It\u2019s becoming visual\/audio white noise. <strong>Source \u2013 Nielsen<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They\u2019re a little older than what some industry analysts classify as \u201cdigital natives\u201d because they never lived in a world without 24\/7 cable TV, Internet access, cellphones.<\/p>\n<p>They probably fall into the digital immigrant category because they quickly adapted to switching between the various technologies and changing media throughout the day.<\/p>\n<p>More than simply taking, they and teens everywhere are also giving back\u2026in spades.<\/p>\n<p>Ferris observed, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive.\u201d<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30390\" title=\"Untitled-3\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-34.jpg?resize=366%2C443\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-34.jpg 366w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-34-247x300.jpg 247w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/em><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Produce, Deliver \u2013 <\/strong>Today\u2019s new mobile video capture devices are great for capturing content and quickly turning it into something teens \u2013 and others \u2013 can edit and upload to the Web. Regardless of race or gender, the numbers are pretty close for the younger generation. <strong>Source \u2013 The Pew Research Center\u2019s Internet &amp; American Life Project<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>According to a recent Pew Research study, 27 percent of the teen internet users record and upload videos.<\/p>\n<p>Older teens (like our kids) do more than their younger counterparts, but that shouldn\u2019t be such a surprise since they\u2019re more likely to have the necessary tools \u2013 smartphones, tablets,\u00a0 still\/video cameras.<\/p>\n<p>Boys seem to do the video production\/uploading content more than girls; not that we find that surprising or even relevant because to us content is content, entertainment is entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>Not sure if gender or race has that much to do with their desire to express themselves visually and share their content with the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inexpensive Creative Tools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The big deal is that they have the video hardware and software tools like Avid Studio, muvee, ArcSoft, Corel that are fast\/easy to use and very economical.<\/p>\n<p>The software lets them steady the scenes, sharpen the images, use elegant transitions, add music\/special effects so the stuff you view is almost as good \u2013 maybe even better \u2013 than the stuff you watch on TV.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing his stuff online Ferris commented, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Incredible, one of the worst performances of my career and they never doubted it for a minute.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And with 72 hours of video content pushed up to YouTube every minute and similar volumes going to the other online sites, there\u2019s plenty to choose from.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30391\" title=\"Untitled-4\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-44.jpg?resize=404%2C260\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-44.jpg 404w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-44-300x193.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 404px) 100vw, 404px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Streaming \u2013 <\/strong>Teens, digital natives, find it completely logical that they can watch their content \u2013 professional, indie, personal \u2013 anytime, anywhere they want and enjoy it on the device of their choice. <strong>Source \u2013 Broadcom<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They not only choose what they want to watch; they decide \u00a0how, when and where they want to watch it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phone Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Phone folks like to tell you how folks \u2013 especially young folks \u2013 are abandoning the living\/family room TV set to watch on their little 4-5 inch screen.<\/p>\n<p>iPad and tablet people are quick to counter that they\u2019re doing it all on their device as the TV set gathers dust.<\/p>\n<p>Sure, the device(s) are convenient when they\u2019re on-the-go; but according to Nielsen Research, they just want to be entertained.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30392\" title=\"Untitled-5\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-54.jpg?resize=514%2C373\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-54.jpg 514w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-54-300x217.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 514px) 100vw, 514px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Entertainment is Entertainment \u2013 <\/strong>Sure, teens get their entertainment sitting in the living\/family room watching the TV; but they also get their video (and gaming) fix in the garage, basement, bedroom, you name it. There\u2019s a TV device for any location. <strong>Source \u2013 Nielsen<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>They just don\u2019t seem to be too particular where or how they\u2019re watching their stuff as long as their watching.<\/p>\n<p>They use the TV set in their room and the game console and the living\/family room as well as streaming on their computer\/iPad.<\/p>\n<p>Content is content; and even though their eyes are better than ours, they still like to watch their entertainment on the TV.<\/p>\n<p>But they\u2019re equal entertainment device viewers and certainly don\u2019t glue themselves to the TV set.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-30393\" title=\"Untitled-6\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-64.jpg?resize=421%2C259\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-64.jpg 421w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-64-300x184.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Viewing Time \u2013 <\/strong>While common logic says it\u2019s the kids who are watching more content than the adults, the numbers don\u2019t support the contention. In fact, they\u2019re so busy texting; they don\u2019t seem to have much time to watch video on their smartphone. <strong>Source \u2013 Nielsen<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Teens constantly, seamlessly switch their attention between media platforms. In fact, some analysts say they change frequently to regulate their mood from tired to bored, happy to sad.<\/p>\n<p>If they want to deal with mixed emotions, they can use them all \u2013 TV, tablet, smartphone \u2013 and really mess with their minds. Still a lot better than other mind-altering options.<\/p>\n<p>In case you haven\u2019t noticed, the constant barrage of newer, better digital technology \u2013 hardware and software \u2013 is affecting all of our brains.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Evolving Brains<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Even back in 2008, <strong><em>Scientific American<\/em><\/strong> published an article on how our technology was stimulating brain cell alteration and neurotransmission release. Technology is strengthening new neural pathways and weakening old ones to accommodate the rapidly changing barrage of content.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s just a lot easier with younger folks who have grown up with computers, smartphones, tablets, video game systems, you name it.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-30394\" title=\"Untitled-7\" src=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-73.jpg?resize=565%2C128\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-73.jpg 628w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Untitled-73-300x67.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 565px) 100vw, 565px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Online, On-the-Go \u2013 <\/strong>While mobile video viewing will increase, it won\u2019t be as rapidly as it is for people who like their entertainment online and with larger screens. <strong>Source \u2013 eMarketer<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While online video viewing continues its steady growth, teens \u2013 and post teens \u2013 are increasingly clogging the mobile pipelines with their entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>This is probably why the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) has been so aggressively \u201curging\u201d the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to give the carriers more of the broadcasters\u2019 bandwidth (something they\u2019re obviously not too keen on).<\/p>\n<p>Broadcasters agree with the Maitre D\u2019 when he said, <em>\u201c<\/em><em>I&#8217;m suggesting that you leave before I have to get snooty.\u201d<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p>But this year, US smartphone viewers represent 90 percent of the mobile video population, according to eMarketer estimates.
