Microsoft made a 180 degree turn yesterday<\/a> by dropping its most restrictive XBox One “always on” DRM policies yesterday.\u00a0 Not to be outdone, Nvidia has also listened to gamers and dropped the price of the SHIELD by $50, from $349 to $299.<\/p>\n

ABT got its first look at SHIELD at E3 2013<\/a>.\u00a0 PC gaming now has a first – its own dedicated handheld which has the potential to be disruptive to the entire gaming industry.<\/p>\n

Here is Nvidia’s blog post from earlier this morning regarding their price adjustment:<\/p>\n

A new kind of open gaming device needs a new kind of development process.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rather than being secretive about SHIELD and what it can do, we decided to bring gamers in on the conspiracy, announcing our plan to bring a portable gaming device with console-class controls and a high-def 5-inch screen to market in January at the Consumer Electronics Show.<\/p>\n

Most of all, we wanted this device to be open and provide the best possible experience\u2014whether you\u2019re playing Android or PC games, or enjoying your favorite movies, music, and other apps on the go.<\/p>\n

Since then, we\u2019ve put SHIELD in the hands of thousands of gamers. Some have been professional press. Others have been inside our own company. But most have been people like the tens of thousands who streamed through our booth at PAX East and E3.<\/p>\n

And their reactions have been more than just positive.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve helped us build a better product. Feedback from gamers is why SHIELD\u2019s triggers have the perfect throw length. Why SHIELD\u2019s buttons have just the right amount of give. Why SHIELD\u2019s thumb sticks are so satisfying to flick. Why playing games on SHIELD\u2019s pure Android software feels so slick.<\/p>\n

The result: while SHIELD isn\u2019t available until June 27th <\/sup>\u2013 we\u2019re making that official today \u2013 it\u2019s already grabbed awards by the fistful \u2013 including dozens of \u2018Best of Show\u2019 awards at CES, Computex and E3.<\/p>\n

Now it\u2019s time for one more change.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve heard from thousands of gamers that if the price was $299, we\u2019d have a home run.<\/p>\n

So we\u2019re changing the price of SHIELD to $299.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve already pre-ordered SHIELD, you\u2019ll be charged the new, lower price. You will only be charged $299 when the product ships.<\/p>\n

We want to get SHIELD into the hands of as many gamers as possible.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s because we think they\u2019ll have the same reaction to it as thousands of gamers already have: joy.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
