After almost 3 years, Dota 2 is out of beta and transitioning to an official release. Officially announced on October 10, 2010, this free-to-play \u201ccompetitive game of action and strategy\u201d has turned out to be one of Steam’s most played titles. The game usually peaks at 300,000 or more players a day.<\/p>\n

Dota 2 is being released to the public in a queue.\u00a0 To play, you will need to get in line and you will be let in depending on your position in the queue. Valve is doing this to \u201cavoid a situation where a rush of players overloads our server infrastructure\u201d.\u00a0 Any Dota 2 early-access pass you may have had will go away, and according to Valve, \u201cMac and Linux builds are currently in testing and will be released soon\u201d.<\/p>\n

With the vast amount of players playing concurrently, Valve has stepped up their server infrastructure to allow for another 450,000 players. Hopefully, an infrastructure for one million concurrent players will be enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are releasing now because its ready, there isn’t an end to development of the game.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We have no word on how long it will take to roll out the game in batches.<\/p>\n
