{"id":40416,"date":"2014-01-06T14:54:51","date_gmt":"2014-01-06T14:54:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/?p=40416"},"modified":"2014-01-06T20:14:29","modified_gmt":"2014-01-06T20:14:29","slug":"tegra-k1-ces-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/tegra-k1-ces-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Tegra K1 is Live in Las Vegas for CES 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Last night at CES 2014, Nvidia unveiled their latest fifth generation Tegra mobile processor \u2013 <span style=\"color: windowtext;\">Tegra K1<\/span>, a 192-core super chip that brings their newest Kepler GPU architecture featured in the GTX 780 Ti and in supercomputers, to mobile. <a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-40421\" alt=\"k1\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1.jpg?resize=250%2C164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1.jpg 313w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1-150x98.jpg 150w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1-300x196.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tegra K1 is the first mobile chip to bring next-generation DX 11 PC gaming to mobile Android platforms.\u00a0 Nvidia claims that the raw power of the last generation XBox 360 and the PS3 game consoles are exceeded by Tegra T1 &#8211; but within an approximately 5W power envelope!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">&#8220;It&#8217;s almost inappropriate to call it Tegra 5, because it&#8217;s simply not linear,&#8221; Nvidia&#8217;s CEO Jensen (Jen-Hsun Huang) said at the PreCES event in Las Vegas. &#8220;It&#8217;s the most successful architecture we&#8217;ve created.&#8221;\u00a0 As a contrast, the currently available Tegra 4 which was launched at the last CES only has 72 cores, each of which is quite limited compared to the Kepler cores of the Tegra K1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">More surprising news came with the announcement that the K1 Tegra chip is offered in two versions &#8211; a 32-bit quad-core (4-plus-1 ARM Cortex-A15 CPU) and a custom, Nvidia-designed, 64-bit dual Core CPU. This CPU (codenamed \u201cProject Denver\u201d) delivers very high single-thread and multi-thread performance.\u00a0 Project Denver is based on the 64-bit ARMv8 instruction set and was not expected until the next generation of Tegra (Logan\/Tegra 6).<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40422 alignright\" alt=\"k1-Denver\" src=\"https:\/\/i2.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1-Denver.jpg?resize=232%2C149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1-Denver.jpg 232w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/k1-Denver-150x96.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Both versions deliver advanced graphics and visual computing capabilities powered by the 192-core Nvidia Kepler K1 GPU.\u00a0\u00a0 Tegra K1 with the ARM Cortex A15 CPU will be available in the first half of 2014 and Tegra K1 with Denver will be available in the second half.\u00a0 We expect K1 to also power the next generation Shield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">With either Tegra K1, users will experience:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>New Gaming Standards<\/b>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"circle\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">Full support for the latest PC-class gaming technologies \u2013 including DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.4 and tessellation &#8211; enabling it to run the world\u2019s most advanced game engine, Epic Games\u2019 Unreal Engine 4<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">The same graphics features as next-gen gaming consoles (Xbox One, PS 4) and faster performance vs. current gen consoles (Xbox 360, PS 3)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>New Creative Capabilities<\/b>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"circle\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">Advanced computation capabilities to speed applications for computer vision and speech recognition<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">Support for Nvidia&#8217;s CUDA enabling computer vision, advanced imaging, speech recognition, video editing and more<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>New Efficiency Benchmarks<\/b>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in;\" type=\"circle\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">Breakthrough energy efficiency, more so than any other current mobile GPU at the same power level<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">Kepler is the world\u2019s fastest and most energy-efficient GPU architecture, powering all 10 of the world\u2019s most energy-efficient supercomputers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The Tegra K1 specifications are quite impressive &#8211; especially considering that it debuts on 28nm.<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/specs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-40424\" alt=\"specs\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/specs.jpg?resize=504%2C355\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/specs.jpg 840w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/specs-150x105.jpg 150w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/specs-300x211.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Tegra K1 Supports Epic Games\u2019 Unreal Engine 4<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tegra K1, is able to support one of the world\u2019s most advanced gaming engines, Epic Games\u2019 Unreal Engine 4.\u00a0 Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games notes, \u00a0\u201cWe can take absolutely anything that runs on PC or on a console and run it on Tegra. and with, there is input lag and stutter.<a href=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/gsync.jpg\" onclick=\"_gaq.push(['_trackEvent', 'outbound-article', 'http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/gsync.jpg', '']);\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-38906\" alt=\"gsync\" src=\"http:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/gsync.jpg?zoom=1.5&amp;resize=150%2C141\" width=\"150\" height=\"141\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/gsync.jpg 800w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/gsync-150x141.jpg 150w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/gsync-300x282.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Nvidia\u2019s solution is G-Sync, which eliminates screen tearing, VSync input lag, and stutter.\u00a0 By building a G-Sync module into monitors, it allows G-Sync to synchronize the monitor to the output of the GPU, instead of the GPU to the monitor.\u00a0 By using a G-Sync adapted display with a GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost or faster GPU, many frustrations will be eliminated.\u00a0 At least six display technology companies are expected introduce to introduce G-Sync enabled displays including 2560&#215;1440 resolution displays in Q2 of this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Tegra K1 moves Supercomputing into Automobiles <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/i1.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/car-RT.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-40418\" alt=\"car-RT\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/car-RT-300x199.jpg?resize=300%2C199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/car-RT-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/car-RT-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/alienbabeltech.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/car-RT.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Jensen highlighted the role of Tegra K1 for automotive applications. From camera-based advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to driver alertness via a dashboard-mounted camera, Tegra K1 will help self-driving cars advance from the realm of research into the mass market with its automotive-grade version of the K1.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Tegra K1 processor will also be used to create photo-real 3D graphics of digital instrument clusters. \u00a0 These clusters along with infotainment systems can be customized with a wide range of virtual materials, from copper, titanium and brushed aluminum, to stitched leather and carbon fiber.\u00a0 Car owners will be able to customize their gauges, controls and dials to suit their tastes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0&#8220;Crop Circle&#8221; explained<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Last week, an unexplained crop circle was reported in an obscure barley field in California\u2019s Salinas Valley.
