I think the biggest thing with Skylake is DDR4, but unfortunately with the current RAM it's not making much difference at all aside from the iGPU.
The 128mb of L4 cache was probably very expensive for Intel to manufacture. I'm also thinking that it might have been the reason for Broadwell being so badly delayed.
This opens up some room for AMD to come in and finally do something. Aren't they working on a new core?
