You look at internet differently when your livelihood depends on it. I don't care enough about posting on forums to pay for VPNs these days. The era of tech forums has come and gone.
What's interesting is that the Camaro in iRollo's profile picture looks just like the Camaro keysplayr used to use on his profile picture. So this could be a parody of a parody. This should be interesting. iRollo, reveal yourself!!

Apoopin has been talking for MANY YEARS, since ABT started, about how he was going to create a huge, revolutionary tech forum. One time I saw a long conversation between you and Amoppin where you were going to Reddit at his bidding and battling with the AMD guys for him. I believe Reddit even closed your account and you were talking about re-registering so you could post more BTR items there. Which I thought was pretty ironic given your past statements on me posting on NVs behalf and re-registering. I guess its only OK if it is to help Amoppin keep his part time job posting stuff for NVIDIA? I also find it amusing you think I'd take the time to "stalk" you. LOL, to what end? I have absolutely nothing to gain and a whole lot to lose. People like me who have "won the game" and reached career and financial security generally don't risk their lifestyle to commit petty crimes over internet forum squabbles, genius. "Hmmmmm, let's see: I can ride out my cushy lifestyle to a cushy retirement with plenty of cash, or I could risk it all and embarrass my family to go up to Canada and punch a guy in the nose because he said mean things to me on the internet!" Probably because like me you're a middle age or better guy not much really happens to. Seriously- I'm about to give my son a full ride through costly American universities. Do you HONESTLY think I want to spend legal fees defending myself against ANYTHING right now? Or want to violate the ethics parts of my consulting work agreement? That's more nuts than anything I've ever said. Not to mention if I wanted retribution on everyone who smarted off to me on the internet I'd be working on it until about 2038. You've got to think about the stuff you say, and try to incorporate what makes sense from the other person's perspective. What you know of me, family man, good job for decades, multiple degrees, fairly well off, doesn't really add up to "petty thug activity" now does it? LOL- I once told my own mom I wouldn't visit her until she moved to a better neighborhood when she was pinching pennies on rent. I just told my son last night he needs to give up that thrift store vintage clothes crap and head back to Abercrombie and Fitch like we used to buy him. I'm not exactly "gangsta" doofus.

I think your general attitudes towards the poor is extremely telling as to the general sentiment there, and it's really the cause of the problem to begin with. The poor in the USA get no respect and no compassion. They have no means to dig themselves out of it. Glass ceilings everywhere. They can't afford to go to college, heck, they're more worried about having food to eat and a roof over their heads. Actually I was reading a news article where they were talking about the minimum wage, it really saddened me to read the comments from people worried that groceries were going to be more expensive. The thing is, people earning minimum wage are our most vulnerable. Not only that, but they are *working* and contributing to society. They're not at home collecting social assistance, draining money from the tax base. They are doing their best to contribute to society and get by. Not everyone has the means or the ability to obtain a higher education. That doesn't mean that they are any less important as human beings. We need to live in a society where people generally have a decent chance at success and a decent chance at a happy life. Really Rollo I find it appalling the way you talk about the poor and those less fortunate than you. Even telling your son that he has to dress a certain way and not shop at thrift shops. So what if he wants to shop there? Maybe it will give him more money for other things. I'm sure he doesn't have an endless supply of cash, none of us do really. I know that I personally am doing great but guess what, I have continued my frugal ways from when I was younger and in university. I continue to save money in any way I can. It just gives me more money for the things I really want. I also have issues with the way the blacks are treated in the US. It broke my heart to read that Michelle Obama was called an "ape" by a government worker in Virginia. Anyhow that's a bit of a rant. You're not going to change any time soon, Rollo. I'm just trying to help you see the world a bit differently, through a more compassionate and less arrogant lens.

A person has to look out for the safety of their family and an easy way to do that is avoid areas where there are people who commit crimes. I could see having to be careful about where one lives. We don't really have that problem here. I mean, we have our bad neighborhoods, sure, but nothing like what I have seen in the USA. What do you know about the poor in the USA? You have no clue the amount of crap fed to you by groups with agendas. You truly know nothing first hand. It amazes me how so many people are fooled, the extent is mind boggling. People have been misled in so may ways and they have no clue how badly. I have said many times on this forum that the "poor" today live a standard of life that far exceeds the majority of all humans since the dawn humankind. But there are so many groups and people who have found ways to capitalize on propaganda that many people seem all too eager to fall for. Those people feeding and pushing the propaganda, they have agendas which have nothing to do with saving the poor. You would be surprised to find out how much of what you think you know is completely warped. The manipulation is made easier when they constantly push, pull, and feed on people's guilt. But, I know you cant possibly be anywhere near accepting what i just said. What you think you know now, its burned in so well that you may never be able to realize it. But nevertheless, there are the facts. Lets start off with the huge obesity epidemic for the "poor" in the USA. Yep, the poor starving people in the US are starving themselves to unprecedented obesity. ![]() ![]() ![]() But facts like these, they are not talked about... unless there is some way to spin it, the narrative has to be how mistreated the poor is. And so these kind of facts, they even try to spin something like this so that it is somehow an act against the poor. So they make it into something like this: Super smart specialist theorize that the higher obesity levels in the poor may be due to the fact that poor people dont have access to the same food that people with higher incomes have. And i am serious, i have read that exact claim many times. But, see.. the poor are not forced to buy junk food. Its actually insane, nuts... junk food is not cheap, Sodas, snack cakes, and all that crap... you can make real meals on the same budget. You can make real meals, home cooked for less than the mass amounts of junk food obese people eat. And the obesity levels trend with income in the US. The lower incomes have not only a higher percentage of overweight people, its also the level of obesity. And it takes a lot of junk food to gain and maintain huge Body Mass Indexes. Sadly, in the US you can go into any grocery store and find people pushing shopping carts piled to the max with junk crap food, individuals pushing multiple overflowing carts to the register and paying with foodstamps...all of it pure fat, sugar, junk food. All across the nation. But, you know.. the poor, oh how they all suffer. Lets just look at how bad they got it: http://www.heritage.org/poverty-and-ineq...acts-about Quote:-> Poor Americans have more living space in their homes than the average non-poor Swede, Frenchman, or German. Quote:- 80 percent of poor households have air conditioning. In 1970, only 36 percent of the entire U.S. population enjoyed air conditioning. Not too bad.... right? Well, those statistics are from 2011. Instead of things becoming worse, these kind of stats have only increased since then. I am linking to this specific article because it is so broad and full of well written, with so many facts and statistics most people will never see, all in one place. Sickbeast, at the very least, read the linked article. I feel you ignore and completely close out things that go counter to what you believe in your head. At least understand that there are things in this world that dont perfectly fit in the predefined box you think they do. That sickbeast POV is a skewed and limited to the portals which you base them on. (07-29-2017, 09:08 AM)ocre Wrote:Look, ocre, you and I have completely different world views. You say I don't understand the poor in the USA, that's a fair point, I haven't really studied it, I just know what I know based on what I have seen. Talk to any Canadian that has visited the States, they will all tell you that the ghettos there are unlike anything seen in Canada. The burnt out buildings, the boarded up windows. People are actually *living* in those conditions. You call that a life? Maybe things are a bit different there. Perhaps people can get by on a minimum wage living. That is simply not possible here, the cost of living is simply too high in our cities. Like I said before, the people making minimum wage are our most vulnerable. They are working and contributing to society, not sitting at home collecting social assistance. Economist after economist has touted the benefits of raising the minimum wage. The only ones opposed to it are the businesses. They have to meet their bottom line and they have to maximize their profits to their shareholders, I get that. However I would much rather see that money in the hands of the thousands of people at the bottom as opposed to the single CEO making $20 million a year. Actually I would suggest that the vast majority of the corporations affected by a higher minimum wage could simply cut their executive salaries and they would probably even come out ahead. What I find interesting is that people are just wired different politically. I don't think you and Rollo can see it any other way, nor should you really. This diversity is really what makes democracy great and it's what makes our systems work. You guys are right about some things, guys like me are right about others. I have a lot of compassion for the less fortunate. Heck, I have *been* that person before in my life, I know how hard it is. Like I said before, my post was directed at Rollo, not you. You're from the deep south and I'm from Canada...let's just say that we're both surrounded by completely different societies. I can disagree with your opinions and still walk away with a lot of respect for you. What you have just posted is completely reasonable. The post of mine that you just quoted was directed at Rollo, who has shown repeatedly that he has a complete disdain for the poor and also "slackers" as he calls them. "Look Ocre I just want to criticize Rollo"? A. Who are you to say what CEOs should make? How would you like it if they said YOU make too much money? B. As noted, higher minimums are a big problem for small business, and small business is half our jobs, a leader in jobs creation, the origin of many big corporations, and way for families to obtain wealth and independence outside of the corporate world. Your view is almost like communism, "Everyone works together for the big effort and the workers wages are raised, management is lowered, because everyone's job is just as important!". C. I've been poor as well, to the point I actually got food stamps. (govt assistance) I did not have the heart to use them and did not, but I have been poor. You know what I found? It was a really good motivation to try and get ahead. D. The working poor here already are subsidized with health care, food stamps, rent assistance. You want them to be paid more as well? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/food...05db4d1364 https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...ty/516861/ |
