As of today I have left ABT. I no longer have any interest in posting there so long as Rollo is an active member. I now fully understand why gstanford left as well. Perhaps if Rollo moves on or gets banned I will go back, but as of now I have no interest at all.

It's too bad; I like Ocre, Dave, and BoFox. Rollo just ruins everything over there.

Rollo, I do see that this is just unfortunate that BTR is not where these people appreciate you for who you are, and the fun with your debates. I looked today. There is no more traffic at ABT. Rollo latest posts are quite nuts besides his spreading dirty lies about us to 3 other people. I guess losing his audience has really pushed him over the edge.

This sucks, man.  If I didn't have 5 kids (maybe 1 or 2 kids max) along with a lot of work cut out for me, I'd have the time to play more games, contribute to ABT and be an admin as well so that Poppin or Gstanford wouldn't have such an edge with teaming up and abusing their power over me.  Gstan is actually far more of a bigot than I could ever be, even if I come across as intolerant of some anti-Christian values (religious discrimination usually brought up in forum discussions by others, not me, while I hardly have the freedom to fairly debate from the other side of the topic).  While I can understand that Gstanford has complete faith in the "herd" (in the most popular consensus among the masses), taking it too far at the expense of freedom and personal liberty completely goes against the fundamental laws of my country.  

I wouldn't have ultimately banned Gstanford if I were an admin, even though I did temporarily ban him for just a few hours (which would've been unnecessary if I had the authority that Poppin had, to delete excessively slandering personal attacks filled with profanity, just like on any other tech forums, and to keep threads cleaner than mens restroom in the back of a redneck gas station.  

SteelCrysis is an awesome contributor.  Rather uncommonly, his OP's might appear to be misleading or "trolling" in the eyes of those who like Steam/Valve, etc, but it does not make sense to outright ban SteelCrysis just because of a couple of such thread topics that are disagreed upon.  A forum will never grow more than ABT ever did in the past 6+ years, if members like SteelCrysis (with a few strong likes/dislikes towards certain tech companies) are banned left and right.  

Rollo is awesome as well.  If posts got far too "ad hominem" or filled with personal attacks, they could've easily been moderated, but as far as I have seen, it always took two to tango.  One tiny little light insult (meant to be taken lightly) from Rollo was often escalated to another level, magnified, and responded to with passive-aggressive "don't-fucking-bully-me" bully attitude that turned the discussion into a personal fist-fight.  Gstanford (although a bigot who cannot stop holding his middle finger up at the end of every post he makes, with such signature reeking of extreme bigotry) interestingly has no problem with debating with Rollo at large, while certain others just cannot keep their knives holstered when arguing with Rollo.  

A forum really needs to grow big first - it needs to really GROW for a LONG time before we should even think of banning decent members left and right.  I just wish that Poppin let me be an admin (while I ensured that he was only a moderator to purge the spammers), so that I could keep his passive-aggressive reactions from keeping it (the active member count) mowed down, from ever growing into a tree as intended.  

But most likely, BTR will not learn from many accidents on the road - the car keeps on getting dented and banged, and cannot ever really go far.  A new car (BTR) with the same driver does not mean it will go far either, if the same driving style continues.  I should be the forum admin over at BTR, but of course, I'm pissed that ABT got ditched in an accident like this, and also I do not think Poppin trusts me enough or wants me to have any moderation over his own actions.  I don't really think it's worth my time anyway, plus Gstanford would leave anyway because he thinks I'd just traumatize him (or because he is so dogmatically atheist that seeing one post in opposition to his anti-religious slur literally burns his skin).  

Anyway..   maybe ABT will be back someday...

Heh- Apoopin called me a "garbage can" over on his site. When I met him at the GTX680 launch he seemed like a good guy, liked him a lot.

IMHO, Dave doesn't have any clue how to run a forum or especially a tech site. He was rarely there when I was, and he probably thinks if he posts a few posts a week, it is all that he needs to do. He took down the tech site and now there is nothing left. That was just an idiotic stunt. And worst of all for him, he is not capable of putting up and running another one. WordPress is the easiest and best supported of the content management systems, and he has zero clue about it. After SEVEN years of supposedly supporting ABT's backend, he learned absolutely nothing about being web master.

And again, I'm supposed to not have a "successful life" because I surf the web a little while I eat my breakfast, lunch, and in the evening. Ironically, SickBeast may well post more than I do.

Well, Poppin doesn't need to waste his time with administrating or worrying about maintaining his own forum. He could just remove his own forum from BTR, and link to ABT forum on his main site, and use it as the forum where we continue to discuss his reviews along with any other topics. As Poppin wouldn't have the ability to ban any long-standing members, the forum would at last be allowed to truly grow, rather than be mowed right down to the absolute minimum for the forum to survive.

The irony is that Poppin says he has no problem with Gstanford holding up his middle finger at the end of each and every post with that personal signature of his, aimed towards Poppin, but Poppin absolutely cannot tolerate Rollo's occasional retaliatory remarks after he perma-banned Rollo not just once but twice.

What's interesting is that motorcycle clubs/gangs usually do not excommunicate members unless the vote is unanimous (or at least very close to unanimous).  ABT forum wasn't even Poppin's to begin, with, but rather Dave's, but Poppin never asked us for our vote or even our opinion on banning guys. 

If he could have treated us with more respect as friends, he would have found more support among us.  A sense of balance would have played itself out, as supporting members would buffer the actions of one or two members who got angry for a moment.  If the President truly wanted a member out of the clan, the only way would be for the president to do it secretly - usually by conspired murder, either alone or with another member who teams up with the president and can keep it secret without getting caught.  But then, if the rest of the clan finds out, the clan would probably excommunicate the president. 

It would've been much more fair and respectful to the rest of the forum participants if it any banning decisions of a long-standing member required a 90% vote (or at least 70-30). 

I wish I thought of this long time ago and proposed this to Dave before everything turned into crap.  Poppin would've realized that we would've been more supportive towards everybody especially himself if he let us have some say before he did any perma-banning.  Of course, as Poppin acted like he was the sole authority, many of us didn't feel much of a need to support the group as a whole for his sake, like a growing family that needed some respect for the brothers of those who were under the target.  I did try to pacify things at times, but I didn't even much of a sway in anything - sometimes I didn't want to bother, since I didn't feel like I was empowered at the slightest degree.  Sickbeast might have persuaded Poppin to bring Gstanford back, and that's about the only sway I've ever seen. 

Anyway, Dave likely still has the old ABT data backed up, and could probably still restore them, as I assume?

Poppin, please just take down BTR forum, link to ABT forum instead, and then Dave would probably let you post your reviews on ABT as well, with the benefit of you getting your old reviews back online.  This is great opportunity for growth, with twin sites, and there would be enough members to keep a forum from being like a lonely nursing home with 1 or 2 friends - with the sprout always tall with its roots in fertile damp soil, not putting its head down and withering time and time again.

That's just me looking for a constructive solution here.  Otherwise, what's the motivation for Dave to restore 7 years of ABT reviews, if Poppin ditched all of us, calling us no-life losers?  Well, Poppin could just go and talk with his own aliens (in addition to Gstanford and Sickbeast) - at least we're here on Earth, using the same language. 

Constructive....   constructive growth!  Poppin, let's just look forward and be positive.  We were a great group of friends sharing discussions on most subjects, and would like to just have a good time with discussing and debating stuff.  If we have mutual respect, and anything goes sour among any of us, it would still uphold the club like a family with a strong bond, keeping things cool and keeping shit from hitting the fan 99% of the time.  We all feel a sense of duty, and if one guy jumps at you, we'd hold him back, while holding you back as well, if you wanted to fight with him as well.  That's what friends are for - if you're the sole executioner, then we'd probably enjoy watching others have a go at you instead.  Plus with a greater sense of duty and loyalty, perhaps more of us would feel compelled to contribute not just to the forum but to the main site as well? 

Oh well!  I'm actually hoping for everything to be restored back to the good old times where we were all enjoying forum banjo together as a big group.

It's a nice thought but there are problems:

1. I don't think Apoppin's ego will let him have anything to do with ABT now. Those who remain here did not bow to his will.
2. The primary motivation for Apoppin leaving was more likely to not have to split the ad revenues with his partner(s). This is basically Apoppin's "job" now.

In real life he is not like that at all. I met him once at a Nvidia event, and I got to see what he is really like over the course of an evening.

There you have it. Those two PMs we exchanged/forgot apparently left you under my power. Ditto for couple PMs with BoFox wherein he PMd me first with his theories on how religion and the lifecycle of plants are evidence of each other, and I disagreed and said the lifecycle of planets may only be evidence of intelligent design, but not necessarily. He too is under my power now.



As far as the rest, more Apoopin lies and half truths.

He DID meet me, and we talked a fair amount. I thought Apoopin was a much more normal and decent fellow than I would have expected from our online interaction. He probably didn't think much of me, because I was drunk. By the time we met I had not been much of a drinker for some years. But I was in a strange city, nothing to do, and getting together with Keysplayr who I did know pretty well, so we partied. Drank a bunch of bourbon on the rocks, then went to a party and drank more. I was wrecked.

Oh well. Left California, came home, went back to mostly not drinking. So while Apoopin did get to see me the one night that year I was pretty drunk, I wouldn't say that makes Apoopin an expert on me.

And I'll take my life ANY DAY over Apoopin's mess if he wants to throw stones.

As far as Keys goes, he's never owed me anything, I was never his "mentor". I recommend him for Focus Group.

Damn it, man... whatever it is, some people are stinky armpits with offending breath but then some people actually evolve from a thorny caterpillar, through a metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly, at everybody's surprise. We never know who, or when.

Maybe not anytime soon now. Gstanford enjoyed debating with Rollo, but not me (I wish he could enjoy me like Rollo).. Sickbeast and Poppin cannot tolerate Rollo telling them that he's better than them, in retaliation.

It'll never be a perfect world.......... Poppin, just next time, let us all be empowered to vote, if we're to stick together without everything being pruned to bare minimum.
