Apple likely to introduce 5″ iPhone and 12.9″ iPad in 2014
A couple of months ago, Reuters and The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple was trying out bigger iPhones then the current 4″ iPhone 5s and 5c. Today though, ETNews reports that Apple will be introducing a 5″ or larger iPhone in 2014. Unclear is whether the iPhone 6 will be sporting a 5″ screen or that Apple will introduce it alongside a perhaps smaller 4″ iPhone.
In addition to the bigger iPhone, Apple is also likely to introduce a 12.9″ tablet, aimed squarely at business-users and college-students who can use it to read books and to make notes. ETnews has been right before, on unannounced Samsung-products. The introduction is most likely not going to happen for another 6 months though, so who knows what Apple will decide in the meantime?
Besides bigger screens, ETnews claims that Apple will be upgrading the screens of nearly all its products. Instead of regular LCD screens, the company from Cupertino might be using amoled-screens instead. Amoled uses less energy and gives very high-contrast images, but when used in direct sunlight it has a disadvantage compared to more traditional LCD screens.
Last but not least, the iPad Mini might be delayed because its new retina-displays appear to be facing difficulties during manufacturing. It is a bad time to be late since Google has already introduced the Nexus 7 with a full-HD panel, which completely blows the current iPad Mini out of the water in terms of resolution. Of course, Apple is also working on a gold iPad Mini 2 and an iWatch, which might feature a bendable screen.
