BBM Number 1 Android App launches with Fake Reviews
Yesterday, BBM hit 10 million downloads on Android and jumped to the number one free app in 75 countries. Initially, when BBM rolled out for iOS and Android, it was stopped after a leaked beta caused problems for the company’s back-end servers. When it resumed last week, both iOS and Android users were put on a waiting list to prevent the same issue from happening again.
After a strong week for the app, BlackBerry has lifted the waiting list and now you can share your PIN with anyone.
On another note, the BBM app has been receiving some fake five star reviews. Writer Matt Baxter-Reynolds mentioned via Tweeter that a huge amount of reviews contained the exact same praise.
“Thank you so much blackberry team. I was waiting this app. Its really great user friendly and smooth”.
This may be similar to when Samsung was fined for hiring people to brag about its products online and to leave bad reviews or comments about its competitors (allegedly HTC).
Blackberry at first did not release a statement on the issue, but according to an article posted by TheVerge.com, a spokeswoman responded by saying, “We have recently been made aware of a number of potentially fake five-star reviews of BBM for Android on Google Play. We do not approve of or condone such activities and are committed to working with Google to resolve this.”
After this statement, BlackBerry responded once more saying the reviews were unwelcome.
“We have been made aware of a number of potentially fake reviews of BBM for Android on Google Play, with ratings anywhere from one to five stars. We have no knowledge of how these reviews were created or populated. We do not approve of or condone such activities. There are also many genuinely great and useful reviews from our new BBM users on Google Play. We would like to encourage our fans and users to continue to provide true assessments of the BBM experience through the proper channels.”
It is unsure how many fake reviews were given, but BlackBerry says that the download number is correct. So what are your thoughts on BBM?
Have you downloaded it yet?
