cloudBoard: A Hands-On Gaming Platform
When it comes to educational gaming for children, there are not many options. You can purchase board games but they don’t usually offer the expansive world that a video game can offer. You can also have your child use your tablet to play educational video games, but they don’t offer the tactile experience a board game does. This is why Digital Dream Labs designed the cloudBoard.
cloudBoard is designed to bridge the gap between the board and video game experience. It’s a board that you insert puzzle pieces into that connects to your computer or tablet. Each puzzle piece corresponds to different actions in a particular game.

An Early Design of cloudBoard
cloudBoard will also launch with a game called Cork The Volcano. Young players will solve a variety of puzzles, while learning skills, “such as planning ahead and trial-and-error problem solving”. In the end, it teaches basic skills of computer programming.

Children really seem to enjoy working with the cloudBoard, as you can see in their Kickstarter video below.
The cloudBoard isn’t just designed for kids, anyone can use it! Digital Dream Labs is hoping for more developers to show interest and develop for the hardware. Puzzle pieces can be 3D printed, so there is no need to worry about losing them. Digital Dream Labs hopes to raise $90,000 for the first run of cloudBoard on Kickstarter. The basic level costs $129 and includes everything to play Cork The Volcano. For more information, please visit the cloudBoard Kickstarter.
