Crysis Investigation
Test 2: Individual Settings, Part 1 (Vista)
We will do the same thing we did with XP but with Vista, but will use very high as the base comparison. Here are the screenshots; the first one is all settings on very high while the rest have one setting on low with the rest on very high.
As with XP, each benchmark’s result below is obtained by having one particular setting set to low while the rest are on very high. Here are the benchmark results from the GPU benchmark:
Now things get interesting as we can clearly see where Crysis ’ main rendering bottleneck lies as confirmed by both platforms: the settings tied to shader quality. Shadows and objects also impact performance quite a lot as well, while texture quality shows almost no impact.
Interestingly, post-processing had a much greater effect on performance on the Vista/Radeon system than the XP/GeForce system, probably as a result of the extra rendering work that was activated by using very high.
