Demigod Review
GAMEPLAY (cont’d)
There are by default eight (8) maps on which to do battle. They are as follows:
Each of these maps support a few types of gameplay. The types of contests are:
- Conquest – Destroy the enemy’s Citadel to win.
- Dominate – Control the flags for a certain amount of time for victory.
- Slaughter – Attain victory by killing a set number of enemy demigods.
- Fortress – Destroy your opponent’s fortresses to attain victory.
After each battle, your demigod will be awarded with favour points. Favour points help your Demigod to attain godhood and act as currency to acquire certain items that will be kept right through your campaign, or Tournament, as it is called in the game.
A Skirmish can also be played where all the factors associated with the game can be set. These factors include game mode, number of player, map, et cetera.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer aspect of Demigod has gotten much attention because of Stardock’s strong anti-DRM policy. Having no Digital Rights Management, this game has been subject to massive piracy. Reports are that there were an estimated 18,000 legit players online right after launch but they were outnumbered by approximately 100,000 game pirates.
This level of piracy resulted in what was termed as a ‘broken’ multiplayer because many people just simply couldn’t connect to the online servers perhaps because they were massively overloaded. The online play however, is very similar to that of the LAN game and does provide an enjoyable gaming experience.
The online community is vast and in true online fashion, has many statistics to go along with it. Each player can strive to be the best, whether overall or in a specific area. To check online stats, you can visit the Pantheon.
