Diamond HD 4890 XOC Preview, Part 1
Diamond HD 4890 XOC Closer Look
The card comes in a anti-static bag and a sticker warns the user to not install it without properly configuring the card. It’s not very difficult to install a video card.
As seen in the above pics HD 4890 uses 2 slot cooler. The fan on the cooler pushes the air out of the back of the case through the openings in the PCI Expansion slots. This is the reference cooler designed by AMD/ATI.
The back of the card is just a myriad of electronic components.
AMD/ATI’s reference cooler used on the HD 4870 has undergone an update. The cooler on HD 4870 was quiet but it was not able to keep the card cool enough. Often the temperatures reached in excess of 85C. The new reference cooler uses 3 heatpipes compared to 2 used on the HD 4870 cooler. This will help keep the temperatures down. A sticker on the cooler warns of a hot area.
In the above picture you can see the 2 CrossFire connectors, should you need to add another card for extra performance. The card uses two 6-pin connectors as featured above.
