Electronic Super Joy Review
If you had to describe Electronic Super Joy in one word, that word would be bizarre. Similar to 2010’s Super Meat Boy, Electronic Super Joy brings a sense of accomplishment that does not come with most video games. It starts off with some back-story;
You lost your arm, in the Disco Wars of 1515. You lost an eye, in the war of Rock n’ Roll. You lost both legs, defeating DJ Deadly Skillz. And you lost your entire butt, to an Evil Wizard. This is the story of your quest, to get revenge for your butt.
Electronic Super Joy
There are three worlds in Electronic Super Joy consisting of 45 levels and a fourth bonus world. Each of these three worlds includes a challenging multi-level boss fight with The Pope, a Godzilla-like monster, and the Evil Wizard who stole your butt. There are also a bunch of joke-cracking sarcastic monks from the Brotherhood of the Beat, as well as ravers and plants that grow to the beat of the music. The puns and orgasmic moaning at each checkpoint adds comical relief that helps lighten the mood. At certain times throughout the game, you are given the ability to double jump, a downwards smash, or fly.

An example of level design and funny puns.
Each level consists of a different environment which is where most of the difficulty comes from. Lasers, rockets, and pixelated enemies all help make the game challenging. Flashing bright-colored backgrounds and rotating levels add even more difficulty. However, the game’s flashing and moving art could be distracting to the player’s eyes. There were a few times where I would look away from my monitor and my eyes needed time to adjust. I never felt sick or dizzy though.

The Warning Screen
Electronic Super Joy is available for PC, Mac, and Linux on their website and also on Steam for 8 dollars. Currently, you can pick up Electronic Super Joy as part of the Alaska Bundle on IndieRoyal. That promotion, however, ends on October 1, 2013. The game took me roughly about 9 hours to complete, but could take any where from 7 – 10 hours, depending on your play style. If you’re looking for a very satisfying but challenging platformer, this may be the game for you. We give Electronic Super Joy a solid 8 out of 10, for its brutally challenging levels and superb soundtrack.
