For those of you who follow these things, HTC EVO 4G is probably up there at the top of the “must-get-approved-from-wifey” list. For those of you not in the loop, tag along and it will be at the top of that list after reading this. As every director knows, you have to make your audience comfortable. So those of you who know about HTC and those of you who don’t, watch this video.
Now that you are feeling warm and fuzzy, let me drop the biggest bomb of a phone HTC has ever produced: the “HTC EVO 4G”.
Hardware
Here are the two biggies: 4.3 inch screen and 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Remember that we have seen this before in the Windows Mobile 6.5 carrying HTC HD2 (btw, that phone is in very high demand and is hard to find it in stock at T-Mobile, RadioShack, Best Buy and other retailers). When the HD2 was released every geek out there wanted a similar phone to come laden with Android OS. EVO 4G represents the culmination of that dream. I will go so far to say that nobody dreamed the specs that EVO 4G brings to the table.
Here’s what’s improved over the HTC HD2
- Support for 4G network has to be the biggest difference
- 8 Mega Pixel Camera vs 5 Mega Pixel on HD2
- Ability to record video in 720p HD
- A 1.3 Mega Pixel front facing camera for video chat
- Mini-HDMI port to connect to your HDTV and play movies directly from the phone
- A built-in kick stand on the back
- Dual LED (Should make a great flashlight)
It’s amazing how so many abilities have been packed into this phone. After all it is a phone, but it is like a superhero with many powers.
Phone Price
This is the point that had drowned many phones. A super phone priced wrongly is just a piece of hardware. Thankfully Sprint has priced this phone similarly to the launch price of most smartphones today. Sprint today announced that the phone will be available for $199 after a $100 Mail-in-Rebate (MIR) on a 2 year contract. Fear not if you don’t trust MIRs. You can always buy the phone at RadioShack or Best Buy and get an instant rebate. Normally the prices at RadioShack and Best Buy can be less than the Sprint Store for phones. So it is entirely possible that you might be able to get the EVO 4G for less than $199 in addition to not having to deal with the MIR.
So to recap
- Sprint – $199 after $100 MIR on a 2 year contract
- RadioShack & Best Buy – Less than or equal to $199 + NO MIR on a 2 year contract
Plans
Now in case you didn’t know, Sprint has the cheapest unlimited everything (if you want to call it that) plan out there out of all the carriers. This sets you back $69.99 monthly which is at least $30 cheaper than other carriers.. But here is the catch (albeit a small one), you only get 450 minutes on this plan for calling within US to a non-cell phone.
But here is the sweet part, $69.99 + your mandatory contribution to your state government gets you unlimited calling to every cell phone in the USA, unlimited texting and unlimited data. Oh, and Sprint will charge you an extra $10 on this plan for EVO 4G (This is mandatory). Sprint calls this the “Premium Data Add-On” since they expect this phone to use considerably more data than their other phones.
So $79.99 is the base price you will be paying per month for an unlimited plan on Sprint for EVO 4G. Also an optional WiFi hotspot service is available for $29.99 per month that will allow you to use the EVO 4G as the router for 8 devices.
In Action
If the above information didn’t convince you, then watch the following video of the phone in action will.

If you are psyched up for this phone, then pre-order to reserve on for yourself because this is going to sell like hotcakes and you don’t want to be left out, do you ?
And let’s end with the beautifully crafter press release by Sprint.

But EVO has more than just an impressive list of features – it is also fun to use with remarkable gaming, video and web-browsing capabilities.”
With the launch of HTC EVO 4G, Sprint customers will be able to enjoy capabilities they have never experienced before with a new video chat service from Qik. HTC EVO 4G boasts the newest version of the highly acclaimed HTC Sense user experience. With HTC Sense, HTC EVO 4G users can use Friend Stream to aggregate multiple social communication channels, including Facebook and Twitter into one organized flow of updates; a “Leap” thumbnail view to easily switch between home screen “panels;” the ability to download new, interactive widgets; and a “polite” ringer, which quiets the ringing phone once lifted up.
While the performance of currently available Android applications will be enhanced by access to 4G data speeds, a Sprint 4G developer guide is available today from the Sprint ADP Web site at http://developer.sprint.com. The Sprint 4G developer guide provides details on developing for an Android 2.1 handset and how to take advantage of HTC EVO 4G’s unique hardware and software capabilities and the Sprint 4G network. The Sprint Application Developer Program has been providing tools for third-party developers since Sprint first launched the Wireless Web on its phones in 2001.
Worry-Free Pricing
HTC EVO 4G will be available in all Sprint retail channels, including Sprint.com and national retail partners, RadioShack, Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Sprint will price the award-winning device at $199.99 with a two-year service agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate (taxes excluded) with a new line activation or eligible upgrade. Pre-registration is available now at www.sprint.com/evo.
In order to provide the best experience, HTC EVO 4G will use Sprint’s industry-leading Everything Data or Business Advantage Messaging and Data plans that include unlimited Web, texting and calling on the Sprint Network to every mobile in America with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM. Everything Data plans start at $69.99 per month. A $10 per month Premium Data add-on will apply allowing customers to take advantage of a richer data experience than ever before.
Additionally, an optional pricing add-on will turn HTC EVO 4G into a mobile hotspot connecting up to eight Wi-Fi enabled devices, such as laptops, gaming devices and digital cameras, simultaneously at 4G speeds where available and at 3G speeds anywhere on the Sprint 3G network for just $29.99 per month – half the monthly cost of the current Mobile Broadband plan (pricing excludes surcharges and taxes).
With the Sprint Free Guarantee, customers can take advantage of HTC EVO 4G for 30 days and if not completely satisfied, may return the device within 30 days to get reimbursed for the device purchase and activation fee, get both the early termination and restocking fees waived, and receive a full refund for the monthly service plan charges.1

You are a Very Skilled Blogger, You either have first hand knowledge of what your talking about or you did some great research. Thanks for this wonderful post.
I’m in a bit of trouble, I’ve had my iphone 3G for the last couple of years and it’s been fine. It is my understanding that Apple has a new software update due out called OS 4 and it’s supposed to be adding some new features to the Apple iPhone. The problem is that I bought Verizon’s new HTC Incredible the HTC Incredible and it’s a truly great phone, far superior to the Apple iPhone 3Gs, BUT I’m hearing that Apple is supposed to be coming out with a completely new iphone altogether, and it’s supposed to be really nice but no one has any ideas as to when and Apple isn’t saying a thing. Should I keep my HTC Incredible, that I have 30 days to test and send it back if I do not want to keep it, or should I return it, keep my current iPhone 3G and wait for the release for the new iPhone- tough to decide.
I like this web video. What camera did you use?
I am one of these people who puts their whole life on their cell phone so I got a Centro way back when and loved it- so personalized (color coding things such as calendar appointments is a MUST for me) and easy to use. The Pre came out and I was loving it… but… well… it just lacked some ‘me’ things. So, whenever I saw all that Android could do…. well I was extremely thrilled. I was blessed to have found 1 phone left in stock at a Radio Shack 40 miles away last weekend and I’ve already been enjoying and customizing ever since.
I have a Sprint HTC EVO and I find this post very useful for my knowledge.
Thanks for another informative website. Where else could I get that type of information written in such an ideal way? I’ve a project that I’m just now working on, and I have been on the look out for such information.
This moto product looks nice, it has very good functions, but this is not enought because the battery sucks.
I love the cute form factor & the swivel function. Makes my phone stand out amongst all
Always good advice from you, Frieda! When we get clear on what is really important in our lives, and start living the life we have, rather than the one we wish we had…what a better quality of life we find ourselves leading, as you so wisely tell us.
Therefore, I am convinced that talking is helpful when we use the universal ingredients genuine understanding, no judgments and sincere listening
