Galaxy’s GTX 760 GC Mini – overclocking in a small package
Conclusion
This has been quite an enjoyable exploration for us in evaluating our new Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini. It did extraordinarily well performance-wise comparing it to the reference GTX 760. We are totally impressed with this cool-running card which is generally faster than its competitors in a similar price range.
We see good overclockability with excellent quietness at stock voltage and fan profile even when the Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini is overclocked beyond Galaxy’s factory overclock and it scales well in performance. The Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini is quieter than the reference GTX 760 and yet it is perfectly suited for playing demanding games at maxed out settings at 1920×1080 and even at 2560×1600 with some lesser detail settings.
For its $265 price, the Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini fits in well with the other vendor overclocked GTX 760s, yet it is perfectly suited for HTPC. From our results, we can expect the Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini is also generally faster than the factory overclocked R9 270Xes which are priced just below the GTX 760s. For fifteen dollars more than the reference GTX 760s cost, it makes sense to pick the mini Galaxy card, while giving the gamer Galaxy’s excellent support and a 3-year warranty.
If you are looking for a “mini” GTX 760 in the $265 price range, there is really only one choice, the Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini.
Pros
- The Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini provides excellent performance for a $265 GTX 760 and generally beats the Radeon R9 270X in performance.
- Overclockability is excellent with the Galaxy-clocked +49MHz offset, and the further +90MHz we achieved without adjust voltage nor the fan profile. GPU Boost works as advertised and the significant 600MHz memory user overclock we achieved, also helps performance.
- The cooling design is quiet and efficient
- 3-Panel Surround plus an accessory display can be driven off of a single Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini.
- Galaxy’s excellent 3 year warranty backed by 24/7 tech support.
Cons
- None
The Verdict:
-
If you are buying a factory overclocked mini GTX 760 class card for a slim PC or HTPC, the Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini is an easy choice for $15 dollars more than the reference design. We feel it deserves ABT’s Innovation award since it is both faster and smaller than competing cards in its class and price range.
We do not know what the future will bring, but the Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini brings good value and a great performer to the GeForce Kepler family. With great features like PhysX and the second generation of 3D Vision, you can be assured of immersive gaming by picking this card for 1920×1080 or even higher resolutions.
If you currently game on an older generation video card, you will do yourself a big favor by upgrading. The move to a Galaxy GTX 760 GC Mini will give you much higher performance and it is also excellent for use where larger cards cannot go.
The competition is hot and AMD offers their own set of features including Eyefinity 2.0 and good price to performance cards.
