GTX 480 Enthusiast Benchmarks Surface
GTX 480/470 was released less than two weeks ago and they are still not yet available for sale in any quantity for about another week. However, some tech enthusiasts already have them and are playing with them, as well as benching and testing GTX 480 and posting their results.
One of these tech enthusiasts, Keysplayr – a moderator at a very popular tech site as well as a member of our own ABT forum – is a NVIDIA Focus Group member who has received one of these cards and has put up his own benchmarks here. They are certainly worth a look.
Right now at ABT we are busy finishing up benchmarking for Part Two of our GTX 480 Performance Testing which will cover the performance of the overclocked HD 5870 (975/1300) versus the overclocked GTX 480 (825/1100) and we think the results may surprise you. If you have not seen Part One, you can find it here.
We also have completed our video testing of the GTX 480 vs. our HD 5870 and the HD 4870-X2. Our video will demonstrate the relative noise levels of each of these cards at maximum load (running Crysis GPU demo looped at 2560×1600 at Very High details) and we will also show you our case temperatures at the end of each long run. You can expect to see that video here and also on YouTube soon.
We have decided to make GTX 480 testing vs. HD 5870 a series. After testing the overclocked cards, we will move on to testing higher levels of MSAA – to see the relative performance hit on each card when we up the anti-ailising from 4x to 8x. We are also planning to pit GTX 480 SLI versus HD 5870 CrossFire and we shall not neglect the “features” of each card, with an emphasis on Eyefinity vs. 2D Surround and the other things that make each video card unique and compelling.
The fun is just beginning and you can be part of it. Join our forum and tell us what you want to see us test for you!
