GTX 780 Lightning launched by MSI
The Geforce GTX 780 Lightning will be MSI’s most extreme GTX 780, tailored to meet overclocker’s needs in every way possible. For those who simply want a stunning-looking and fast GTX 780 don’t even have to overclock it themselves, because MSI has increased the baseclock from 863MHz to a whopping 980MHz! The Turbo Clock comes in at 1033MHz instead of the regular 900MHz. The clockspeed of the memory remains unchanged though, at a respectable 6008MHz.
MSI GTX 780 Lightning features
Those of us who want to overclock the GTX 780 Lightning can get their hands dirty. MSI uses a lot of fancy words, like Military Class 4 components and 3×3 OC Kits. A lot of the features the card has been outfitted with come in threesomes – like three LEDs that show the amount of load on the card, ranging from low, medium, to high. It’s also possible to adjust three kinds of voltages, from the GPU, the memory and the PLL-voltage. Of course you can also monitor temperatures from three different components: GPU, memory and the VRM’s.
The military class-components should basically limit voltage fluctuations, enable the GPU to draw enough power whilst not running too hot. That’s also where the so-called TriFrozr-cooler comes in. The heatsink has an abundance of heatpipes, seven in fact, to draw heat away from the GPU and transfer it to the aluminum cooling fins. Three fans will take care of all the airflow the videocard could possibly need. On the backside of the card sits MSI’s GPU-reactor and a backplate, to keep things cool as well.
If you’re in the market for a fast GTX 780 with good overclocking capabilities and 3GB of ram, the GTX 780 Lightning might be for you. Be prepared to shell out 749 dollars though, as this piece of engineering won’t come cheap. Its powerdraw at stock settings, shouldn’t exceed 250W. So although there’s a GPU-reactor, it doesn’t require one to run it.
