Intel Will Pay $1.25 Billion to AMD to Settle Disputes
Intel has agreed to pay a rival Advanced Micro Devices $1.25 billion to settle their antitrust and patent disputes. Their brand new settlement will resolve cases pending in Federal District Court in Delaware and also two in Japan. As part of their settlement, A.M.D. will also withdraw all of its regulatory complaints worldwide. In addition, Intel agreed to abide by a set of business practice provisions. This is outlined in Intel’s press release:
In a joint statement the two companies commented, “While the relationship between the two companies has been difficult in the past, this agreement ends the legal disputes and enables the companies to focus all of our efforts on product innovation and development.”
Under terms of their agreement, AMD and Intel will obtain patent rights from a new 5-year cross license agreement. Their agreement will be made public in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
