Introducing Galaxy’s GTS 450 SuperOverclock
Left 4 Dead
Left 4 Dead (L4D) is a 2008 co-op first-person shooter that was developed by Turtle Rock Studios and purchased by Valve Corporation during its development. Left 4 Dead uses Valve’s proprietary Source engine and it replaces our older Souce benchmark which used Half Life 2’s Lost Cost demo. L4D is set in the aftermath of a worldwide pandemic which pits its four protagonists against hordes of the infected zombies. There are four game modes: a single-player mode in which your allies are controlled by AI; a four-player, co-op campaign mode; an eight-player online versus mode; and a four-player survival mode. In all modes, an artificial intelligence (AI), dubbed the “Director”, controls pacing and spawns, to create a more dynamic experience with increased replay value. It is best as a multiplayer game played against humans.
There is no built in benchmark for Left 4 Dead, so we used ABT Senior Editor BFG10K’s custom time demo which is very repeatable. Unfortunately, the game is updated regularly by Steam and we were caught by a platform update and had no time to get or create another time demo. So we used a stock GTS 450 to note the comparison with 8800 GTX and also to see the performance penalty from increasing the anti-aliasing from 4x to 8x. Since the Source engine is not so demanding, we chose the highest detail settings available.
Unfortunately we were caught by the Steam platform update and were only able to partially compare two video cards. We do see that a single GTS 450 is fine for Left4Dead at maxed settings to perhaps 1920×1080 resolution with 4xAA. Upping the resolution to 8xAA does take a significant performance penalty but it is still very impressive for a stock-clocked $130 midrange card!
It’s a phenomenal review!! I loved how you compared it with a 5750 and my old 8800GTX, plus how you did 450’s in SLI versus 5870 and GTX 480. And the fully-rounded arsenal of games is icing on the cake!
Awesome review, very cool that you added 8800GTX. I was considering swapping mine out for the 450 originally.

However, either PSU is probably sufficient if they are of reasonable quality and not defective. The card’s fan speed is variable, depending on the temperatures. Use Galaxy’s Xtreme HD Tuner or EVGA precision tool to monitor temperatures.
Happy to find out until this website successful in my iPhone , anything I would like to perform is actually functional. Thanks for keeping up to date with the most up-to-date.
