Introducing Galaxy’s GTS 450 SuperOverclock
Far Cry 2 uses the name of the original Far Cry but it is not connected to the first game as it brings you a new setting and a new story. Ubisoft created it based on their Dunia Engine. The game setting takes place in an unnamed African country, during an uprising between two rival warring factions. Your mission is to kill “The Jackal”; the Nietzsche-quoting mercenary that arms both sides of the conflict that you are dropped into.
The Far Cry 2 game world is loaded in the background and on the fly to create a completely seamless open world. The Dunia game engine provides good visuals that scale well. The Far Cry 2 design team actually went to Africa to give added realism to this game. One thing to especially note is Far Cry 2’s very realistic fire propagation by their engine that is a far cry from the scripted fire and explosions that we are used to seeing.
First we test at 1440×900 with Ultra settings plus 2xAA using the Ranch Long benchmark which is run at least three times and the results averaged; AI is enabled.
The GTS 480 convincingly beats the HD 5750 and the 8800 GTX. Next we test Far Cry 2 benchmark at 1680×1050 – all of the resolutions we tested at are with AI enabled. The GTX 450 runs away from the Radeon and the old GTX at the higher resolutions. Minimums are satisfactory for the GTS 450 although the performance hit is fairly high going from 2x to 4xAA.
And again at 1680×1050 resolution:
Here we see the GTS 450 play Far Cry 2 very nicely at 1920×1080 and with 4xAA with occasional slowdowns in the minimums that should be greatly improved by using the Galaxy SOC version. And this time, using the far cheaper GTS 450 SLI will give you a better playing experience than with the HD 5870.
It’s a phenomenal review!! I loved how you compared it with a 5750 and my old 8800GTX, plus how you did 450’s in SLI versus 5870 and GTX 480. And the fully-rounded arsenal of games is icing on the cake!
Awesome review, very cool that you added 8800GTX. I was considering swapping mine out for the 450 originally.

However, either PSU is probably sufficient if they are of reasonable quality and not defective. The card’s fan speed is variable, depending on the temperatures. Use Galaxy’s Xtreme HD Tuner or EVGA precision tool to monitor temperatures.
Happy to find out until this website successful in my iPhone , anything I would like to perform is actually functional. Thanks for keeping up to date with the most up-to-date.
