Introducing The Joos Orange From Solar Components
In case you missed it, just under two weeks ago, the Silicon Valley-based company Solar Components announced their first product – the Joos Orange (Joos is pronounced like the word “juice”). It is described as the world’s first “personal solar appliance” and the company claims that it can be used to generate up to 20 times the power of competing devices.
They also say that the device generates twice as much power as is required to run a cell phone during a call. This equates to 1 hour of charge giving you 2 hours of talk time. This is roughly 6 times longer than other devices that claim to do the same.
The Orange is supposedly easy to carry around as its dimensions are only 8.58“ x 5.77“ x 0.79“ and weighs approximately only 24 ounces! That is smaller than some books. Now that is a lot of power in a small package.
Another claim is that the Joos Orange works not only in the sun but also in the shade and under water! Check out their YouTube video and see for yourself.
This editor is eager to get a test sample. I have more than enough sunshine here in Jamaica and I am an advocate for clean, green power. I would definitely put this device through its paces and eventually to good use.
The Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is US $99.95 and it is expected to be available in June 2010.
