iPhone 5 to be discontinued as the iPhone 5S and 5C launch
Apple showed off its newest phones today that will be replacing the iPhone 5 – the new flagship iPhone 5S and the low-budget iPhone 5C. This is the first time that Apple has simultaneously launched two different iPhones at once. The iPhone 5C is everything the iPhone 5 was but with a couple of key improvements.
The iPhone 5C has a 10 hour battery life compared to the iPhone 5’s 8 hours. The iPhone 5C also sports an improved camera but is built out of plastic. The 16GB iPhone 5C will cost $99 with contract and the 32GB iPhone 5C will cost $199. It is available in blue, green, pink, yellow, and white. Apple is also offering specially designed cases for the iPhone 5C available in many colors for $29.99.
The exciting news comes from Apple’s new flagship iPhone 5S. The design stays the same, however, all the internals have been upgraded. The 5S becomes the first true 64-bit phone using the A7 processor.
Apple has also included a secondary processor called the M7 to specifically measure motion data from the built-in accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass. The A7 chip supports OpenGL ES 3.0, allowing the iPhone 5S to deliver highly detailed and complex graphics similar to gaming consoles.

The camera is an improved 8MP iSight camera which features a better sensor, the ability to record slow motion video, and a burst mode capable of capturing images up to 10 photos per second. The newly designed true tone flash allows for more accurate images and videos. The iPhone 5S also features a fingerprint reader built directly into the home button. Using a new application called Touch ID, your fingerprint can be used to unlock your iPhone, or even to make purchases on the App Store. It even allows you to set up multiple user accounts using their own fingerprints. Built for iOS 7, the iPhone 5S looks to be the best iPhone yet. It is available in gold, silver, and gray. The 16GB version costs $199 with contract, the 32GB iPhone 5S costs $299 with contract, and the 64GB version costs $399.
The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C launch on September 20th, the same day the iPhone 5 will be discontinued. However the 16GB iPhone 4S will be available for free with a contract. Apple’s new iOS 7 will release for free on Wednesday, September 18th. iOS 7 is the biggest redesign of IOS ever.
