MSI releases Custom HD4870 with 90mm Fan

In a market where the profit margin’s are slimming on discrete GPU’s, video manufacturers face increased competition from each other to sell more and more of their own cards. What makes a video card stand out among other similiar priced cards from other manufacturers are the features that make the card stand out. And cooling is one big part of that. MSI ( Micro Star International ) has done just that with their latest custom desgined HD4870 cards. They have managed to put a 90mm fan on their latest creation.

The cards will have the model numbers  R4870-MD1G for the 1GB version and R4870-MD512 for the 512MB version. Both equipped with a large 9cm fan.  The two cards also equip a copper base, large heatsink area and dual heatpipes design. For better stability, the cards come with the Solid State Choke.

MSI claims that other cards employ a 80mm fan can push 35CFM of air at 3500-3800 RPM, while their cards which employ 90mm fan will push air upto 56CFM at 2800 RPM . This will help the card to run cooler and be less audible. It certainly is an interesting concept.
