Nvidia Counters Radeon HD 4890 with GeForce GTX 275?
We have learned that the proposed competition from Nvidia to counter ATI’s Radeon HD 4890, may likely come in the form of the GeForce GTX 275. Both products are slated for a showdown release and rumour has it that they will be launched on the same day. The leaked date is April 6th. There haven’t been many details so far but as usual we can expect them to materialize as we get closer to launch.
Speculation has it that GTX 275 could be a slightly beefed-up GTX 260 featuring 216 Shader Processors (SPs) with the 512-bit memory interface like the GTX 280. Or, it could be a slighty weaker version of the GTX 280 featuring 240 SPs with the 448-bit memory interface like the GTX 260.
Either way, the performance is sure to fall somewhere in between. As for pricing, the GTX 275 will most logically retail in the US$229-$279 price range just as the HD 4890 is predicted to. If this turns out to be true, then consumers should gear up for another head-to-head clash of the two GPU titans.
