Nvidia’s Upcoming Optimus Tech
Nvidia today announced that they are going to introduce a new tech called “Optimus” sometime in Q1 2010. Nvidia says that this tech is designed to optimize user experience on mobile platforms. The tech offers users the performance of discrete graphics from the notebook while providing great battery life at the same time. More details are expected to be released next month.
Just for the fun of speculating, I think this may be something along the lines of Nvidia’s Hybrid SLI tech. With the launch of Intel’s Arrandale CPUs, which feature an integrated GPU on the CPU package, Nvidia might use Intel’s GPU for 2D operations and it’s own GPU when gaming performance is required.
