PlayStation 4’s Launch Date Announced at Gamescom
Sony has announced the release date for the upcoming PlayStation 4 during their press conference at Gamescom 2014:
– November 15th in the U.S and Canada
– November 29th in Europe and Latin America
The launch dates for the rest of the world may be sooner or later, depending on the markets. In 2006, Sony’s PlayStation 3 launched in Japan 7 days before the U.S.
The PlayStation 3’s launch was not smooth as console shortages and other problems occurred. According to Amazon’s listings, The PS4 is sold out and will not be available until about Dec. 31st for shipping.
The console is still available for Pre-order through other retailers.
It will be interesting to see if there are enough consoles available during launch for gamers to get their hands on without having to pre-order the console.
Here is the official statement from the PlayStation blog:
If you watched our press conference at Gamescom, you’ve already heard some of the great news we’ve just shared that gamers everywhere have been waiting for. Today, we’re happy to confirm that PlayStation 4 (PS4) will launch on November 15th in the U.S. and Canada – in time for the holidays! PlayStation fans in Europe and Latin America will also be able to get their hands on a PS4 system on November 29th, so you’ll be able to connect with your friends and fellow gamers worldwide on PS4 this year, taking advantage of all of the deeply integrated social features and incredible gaming experiences that PS4 has to offer.
In the same blog, Sony mentions that there are currently 180 PS4 titles in development, and 33 of those titles will be available for the system by the end of December this year.
Although Sony beat Microsoft to the punch this time, do you think Microsoft will attempt to launch before the PS4?
