Radeon 4890X2 coming?
A video interview with Saša Marinkovic (ATi’s product manager for consumer platforms) seems to imply such a card.
Based on reports so far, a reference design from ATi might not be launched, but partners have been given the opportunity to launch their own custom parts.
Additionally, BSN claims:
There is one ATI partner that actually plans such a design and wants to do dual-1GHz GPU clock, partnered with 2GB and 4GB of GDDR5 memory. We are going to leave to speculation what might be the identity of that partner, but know that we managed to see some very interesting engineering drawings.
Needless to say, if the 4890X2 materializes, it’ll be interesting to see how it compares to the GTX295, and whether it can recapture the performance crown. One thing is almost certain: such a beast will be extremely power-hungry, especially if it’s a dual 1 GHz variant with 4 GB memory.
