Seagate adds Eco-friendly Barracuda LP Series Drives to its Lineup

These days the focus is on going “green”. From Video Cards, to Motherboards to Hard Drives, everything is going green. Seagate intends to do the same. They have announced eco-friendly Barracuda LP (low-power) Series hard drives which promises to  lower power consumption.

These drives will be available in capacities of 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB. These drives use 500GB platters which spin at 5900RPM and include 32MB cache. According to Seagate, Barracuda LP 1TB model uses only 3W when idle and 5.7W under load. Barracuda LP delivers sustained read/write speed of 95/84MB per second with average latency of 5.5ms.
