UPDATE: This Editor’s Modern Warfare 2 Pet Peeve
UPDATE:
I replayed the level without harming any civilians. However, after leaving inside the airport, where we had to go up against the armed forces, Makarov ended up killing me because I wasn’t being “loyal”.
In essence, not participating in the level blows your cover which results in death and a failed mission. At least, we are able to get past the civilians without participating in their awful massacre. We still, however, have to witness it and that gets a solid thumbs down from me.

You don’t have to play that mission. You have the option before you start the game to skip it AND before you play that mission, you also have the option to skip it.
That is true. However, I speak in terms of the flow of gameplay.
I’m sure no one wants to really pay $60 (more than normal for a PC game) and skip, or miss out on, a level for any reason.
