TSMC’s 40 nm yields dramatically improve
The issue of low 40 nm yields at TSMC has been a hot topic of late, especially with ATi’s 4770 parts being quite hard to get, and also because of nVidia’s quiet introduction of desktop 40 nm parts in the OEM sector.
Well there’s good news on the horizon because TSMC’s CEO Morris Chang advises that 40 nm yields are up from 30% fto 60%. He also expects third quarter growth for the company in 2009.
The 40 nm process will become particularly important in the next few months as nVidia and ATi start taking swings at each other with their DX11 heavy-weights. The better the yields, the better the pricing and availability for customers like us.
