Valve may introduce a game sharing feature to Steam
Valve may be introducing a game sharing feature within steam. In the newest Steam Beta Client update, a NeoGAF member spotted three lines of code that make reference to game sharing. The lines are:
- “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicense_Title” “Shared game library”
- “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_OwnerText” “Just so you know, your games are currently in use by %borrower%. Playing now will send %borrower% a notice that it’s time to quit.”
- “SteamUI_JoinDialog_SharedLicenseLocked_BorrowerText” “This shared game is currently unavailable. Please try again later or buy this game for your own library.”
Currently as soon as you purchase a game on steam, its tied to your account. You can gift a game to another Steam user, but then the ownership is transferred to them.
Nothing has been confirmed by Valve, but it would sure be interesting if this feature was introduced.
