Verizon Edge and Max Promos
This past Sunday, Verizon launched its new Edge program (New upgrade-often plan) along with Verizon Max. An article posted by Droid-life received a tip from a reader who was sent a tweet from the official Verizon Support Twitter account (@VZWSupport). The tweet mentioned that Verizon would be launching a new promo for unlimited data users that included 6GB of data for only $30, and by switching over would allow the customers to join the new VZ Edge program.
What is Verizon Max:
VZ Max breaks up into two tiers. The first tier includes 6GB of data for $30 without tethering, and 8GB’s of data for $50 including tethering. None of these data plans may be shared since they are not part of the VZ Share Everything plans.
The purpose behind this new promo is to give the very few accounts that still have unlimited data users the chance to participate in the VZ Edge program. Verizon decided to give these specific customers a sizable amount of data for about the same price that Non-Max tiered customers pay now.
Verizon Max will only be available for a limited time, even though expiration dates have not been announced.
Of course, VZ Max is only for existing customers who have unlimited data plans and who are signing up for the VZ Edge promo.
Verizon Edge:
It is simply a way for customers who want to upgrade every year instead of every two years. Let’s say you want a new shiny device but you are not due for an upgrade. Now you can pick out a device and make payments on it at full retail for the next two years. What we think is nice about this promo is that there is no money down and if you pay off the full amount in six months, you can automatically upgrade again.
Good and bad deal:
For some customers, VZ Max would not be good enough because some use large amounts of data. VZ calls these users the “top 1%” and being in the top 1% means using more than 50GB to over 100GB of data.
The certain individuals who possibly use less than 6GB to 8GB, this is awesome and a pretty sweet deal. When you look in comparison at the current prices for Verizon’s higher data packages, customers are saving quite a bit of money. Verizon currently charges $80 for 6GB and $90 for 8GB on the Share Everything plans.
Our final thoughts:
We think the new plans are great but only for specific users; not everyone will fit in these categories for data usage. For example, I am currently a Verizon customer with a 5 year-old plan that has unlimited data, and I use well over 60GB of data each month. What I do not like is that Verizon will not help me to upgrade or to even join the Edge program because I would need to either use my upgrade or switch over to the VZ Max promo.
So what are your thoughts on Verizon’s promos?
Would you give up your unlimited data plan?
Lets us know.
