WD selling Lucky Hard Drives in China

Western Digital is selling a 808.8G SATA2 32M hard drive (WD8088AADS) in China. If you haven’t already noticed that is a lot of 8’s in there. That is because the number 8 is considered lucky in China. Western Digital(WD) is looking to capitalize with the slogan of “All the Way Lucky with 8?. This model forms a part of WD’s Caviar Green’s series which sacrifice performance to provide lower power usage and noise. Good news is that this drive uses 500GB platters. WD8088AADS causes 3.9W power consumption at idle use and 7.4W under load and features SATA interface and delivers speed of 3.0Gb/s. For now this product is only being distributed in China.
