Where to get your EVO 4G from ? Best Buy,RadioShack, Sprint or Walmart ?
So now that all the cards are laid on the table, we know that the EVO 4G will be launching on June 4th for $199 after a $100 MIR on a two year contract on Sprint. If you don’t know about the EVO 4G, please read this article I posted yesterday. An in-depth analysis of the 1GHz Snapdragon processor powering the EVO 4G can be found here.
So you are all hyped up now and want to buy this baby as soon as it releases on June 4. Well I have some good news and some bad news for you. If you wait till June 4, you might not be able to get your hands on this device as it is expected to be in high demand and may sell out, unless you want to stand in a line outside your Sprint store on the launch day.
Who’s taking pre-orders ?
Luckily for you, Best Buy and RadioShack are taking pre-orders. You can reserve you EVO 4G today and be assured that you will have one in your hands come June 4th.
Sprint and Walmart however, are not taking pre-orders. If you want to buy from these places you will need to go to their stores on June 4 or order online.
The Pre-Order Process
If you are already a Sprint customer, you will need to be eligible for an upgrade if you want to pre-order. Both Best Buy and RadioShack will sell you a $50 gift card when you pre-order, which is a sort of guarantee for holding the device for you. On launch day you will need to go to the store to pick up your EVO and you can use the gift card towards the phone purchase. If you decide to change your mind, the gift card is not refundable. You will have to use this gift card to purchase something else in the store.
What’s the Best Deal ?
Best Buy and RadioShack both are offering the EVO 4G for $199 with no Mail-In-Rebates (MIR). However, RadioShack seems to be the better deal at this time as they are also offering a $20 accessory credit. So this means that your $199 gets you the EVO 4G for $179.99 effectively, while leaving $20 for spending towards the accessories.
- Best Buy – $199 for 2 year contract (New & Upgrade customers)
- RadioShack – $199 for 2 year contract + $20 Accessory Credit (New & Upgrade customers)
- Sprint – $199 after a $100 MIR (New & Upgrade customers)
- Walmart – no price decided yet

Please note that pre-order can only be done in store.
