U.S. Little League champs lose title for using ineligible players

Little League International announced Wednesday that it is vacating all of the Jackie Robinson West squad's wins from last year's tournament, including from the Great Lakes regionals and U.S. championship, because some of its players lived outside its assigned boundaries.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel called Keener and the two spoke for 10 minutes, a spokeswoman for the mayor, Kelley Quinn, said. Emanuel told the Little League official that the players didn't deserve to be punished. The organization should have sanctioned the adults, he said.

"You have turned them into the perpetrators when they are the victims," Emanuel told him, according to his spokeswoman.

  FrozenCPU Not Closing
Posted by: SteelCrysis - 02-12-2015, 06:26 AM - Forum: General Hardware - Replies (1)

http://www.maximumpc.com/frozencpu_runni...y_business
Whew, they're a good bunch.

Quote:Depending on where your web travels have taken you lately, you may have heard that FrozenCPU.com is going out of business. That would be a shame to lose another enthusiast vendor, as system builders have already lost Danger Den a little over two years ago (the site had been in business for 12 years at the time), and some of you might remember ZipZoomFly, another PC parts store that bit the dust. Well, the good news is FrozenCPU is not shutting down, according to the owner.

Word of FrozenCPU's demise originated at Overclock.net by someone claiming to be a former employee.

"The owner has struggled a long battle with addiction, and events that unfolded earlier last week have rendered the company unoperational and shut down for good. Physical damage of the warehouse has occurred as well as the dismissal of all support and warehouse staff; the company has no plans of re-establishing themselves," the ex-employee wrote.

A Swiftech rep suggested the post was accurate, though Swiftech's CEO Gabriel Rouchon later retracted the rep's statement, adding that his company has no official information on FrozenCPU.

HardOCP ended up contacting the owner, who confirmed that it's running with just a few people, but plans to stay in business.

"We just heard back from Mark Friga, the owner of FrozenCPU.com, a long time enthusiast community supplier, and he explained to me that FrozenCPU is in fact not going out of business as rumored earlier today. He said that FrozenCPU is currently running a skeleton crew and to please bare with his company while the it is ramping back up to 100 percent employee capacity," HardOCP said.

We don't know what that means in terms of handling times when processing orders, but for now, it looks like FrozenCPU isn't going anywhere. If you want to support the site and don't mind potentially waiting a bit longer than usual, head over and place an order. Or kick back and see if there any new developments in the coming days/weeks.

Wireless carriers have to unlock your paid off phone

Wireless carriers have to unlock your paid off phone

Major wireless carriers in the US have promised to unlock customers' phones or tablets once they've paid off their contracts, beginning today. This is the result of an agreement the carriers made with FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler in late 2013; the deadline to comply with all portions of the agreement arrived today.

Carriers must also post unlocking policies on their websites (here are links for AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile), provide notice to customers when their devices are eligible for unlocking, respond to unlock requests within two business days, and unlock devices for deployed military personnel.

Actually getting a phone unlocked in practice can be a frustrating experience, as our own Lee Hutchinson can confirm. Let us know if your carrier gives you any trouble.

FDA Has Repeatedly Covered Up Scientific Fraud
Posted by: SteelCrysis - 02-10-2015, 11:22 PM - Forum: News & Politics - Replies (1)

http://retractionwatch.com/2015/02/09/fd...new-study/

Quote:For decades, the U.S. FDA has uncovered misconduct in clinical trials but hidden it from the public, according to a new paper in JAMA Internal Medicine.

The study, by New York University journalism professor Charles Seife, looked at 78 publications resulting from trials where the FDA found serious misconduct, including “failure to protect the safety of patients” and data fakery. Only three of those publications mentioned the problems uncovered by the FDA. No retractions or errata were ever issued for any of them.

For example, in one of the three cases:
Quote:…data from several patients were excluded from the efficacy analysis because “site monitoring raised questions in regard to certain data at 1 study site.”65(p431) The FDA documents64 allege that none of the individuals enrolled at 1 study site had met the inclusion criteria and that the responsible researcher had fabricated chest radiographs of participants and committed other forms of misconduct.

  News On GPU Process Nodes
Posted by: SteelCrysis - 02-10-2015, 11:12 PM - Forum: Video - Replies (3)

http://www.fudzilla.com/news/processors/...ip-factory

Quote:We have learned that high performance discrete GPUs will never make it to 20nm, simply as process has too much power leaks and poor yields with big cores. The GPU industry will move to 16nm FinFET at TSMC in 2016, or 14nm with Samsung and GlobalFoundries at about the same time. After 16nm FinFET, TSMC is planning to transition to 10nm as early as late 2016, but we believe that this is very optimistic timing.

A $16 billion investment may sound like a lot of money, but Intel has invested more than $6 billion in Israel based fabs since 2006. Intel is right now preparing Israel fabs for 10nm, while Ireland is manufacturing most of Intel's 14nm SoCs right now. The next node after 10nm for Intel is 7nm, probably happening before the end of this decade.

Back in 2009 in Albany, New York state, GlobalFoundries executives and chaps from The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering were telling us that each transition cost to a new node grows exponentially. Despite large R&D investments, it is getting harder to transition from 28nm to 20nm to 14nm. This is one of the reasons why Samsung and GlobalFoundries have joined forces for their 14nm push.

Indiana Religious Freedom Law

Indiana business differed with Gov. Mike Pence and some clergy Monday on a proposed law that supporters say would protect people and businesses from having to take part in same-sex weddings and other activities they find objectionable because of religious belief.

The Indiana Chamber of Commerce and other business groups argued that the Republican-sponsored proposal could hurt the state's reputation and make it more difficulty to attract companies.

AMD vs Intel. I knew it was bad, but...........

I came across this recent article.

Best CPU for the Money: AMD vs Intel Budget Shootout

All i can say is that i am shocked everytime I see how bad AMD has fallen behind.

Their 8 core Vichera FX-8320E which turbos all the way up to 4 ghz cannot compete with a modern 4ghz 4core intel cpu without hyperthreading!!!!!

Worse is this 4ghz turbo 8 core AMD chip cannot best even a modern 3.7ghz intel dual core chip, even while overclocked to 4.6ghz.

Its bad bad bad

here are some highlights,

Forget about even high resolution gaming, Vishera is just to weak even with 8 cores at 4ghz
[Image: Gaming_High_01.png]

Intel Dual core walking all over Vishera
And look at look at the power consumption for this lack in performance.

Whats worse is that its not just gaming, even task like encoding. encoding with 8 AMD cores

SAY WHAT!!!!!

This is terrible,

From the conclusion:

Quote:In the end, AMD's FX-8320E is an affordable quad-core processor that overclocks decently, but even if you pushed it to 5GHz it would struggle to match the slightly pricier Core i5-4430 and even the Core i3-4360 at times. Then after you take the power consumption figures into account, arguments for the FX-8320E begin to seem rather indefensible.

Free performance isn't exactly free if it comes at the expense of drawing more power and needing a more efficient cooler, so the humble Core i3-4360 makes more sense than the FX-8320E for budget users. There may be some great reasons to buy the FX-8320E, but we don't think it's the chip you want if you're after the best overall performance for the price.

Separately, we were surprised by how well the dual-core i3-4360 performed against the quad-core i5-4430. Although it runs 500-700MHz faster and has Hyper-Threading, we thought there would be a larger gap in our application tests as the i5-4430 actually has four cores. Given the price difference, we would also suggest the i3-4360 over the i5-4430.

Check it out,

any care to discuss

This really is shocking!!!!!
