CM STORM Sentinel Advance Review
Software (continued)
Each profile can have its own independent settings, including lighting effects. Speaking of lighting effects, there are some really cool ones such as the Breathing setting that lets the LEDs on top fade in and out, alternating with the ones on the front of the mouse. There are also Full Color and Disable.
In addition, the Rapid Fire setting causes a white LED to flash from the front of the mouse whenever a button is pressed. I am excited about this feature. Yes, I will admit that it is a bit gimmicky but it does it in a way that would please any FPS gamer. All the lighting effects are amazing, especially in the dark! Something to note though, the Rapid Fire effect doesn’t really work if your front LEDs are set to white because the flash is white so you won’t see it.
Both sets of LEDs can be coloured separately as you’ve seen in the short video above. As the name suggests, there are eight LED colour options included in this Octoshade™ technology. They are:
- Off (shown as black)
- Red
- Green
- Blue
- Yellow
- Purple
- Aqua
- White
The profile management system works in conjunction with the library as well. You are able to save profiles for later use. There is a standard profile called CM STORM, that can also be edited a bit, and four others to do as you wish. You can customize to your heart’s content. I even have one set up for my desktop tasks! Here is how I represent for my clan…AlienBabelTech. Check out my logo in the next pic!!
The beauty of all this is that once you set everything up, you’re done! Everything is stored on the 64K of Sentinel-X™ memory built into the mouse. This means that if you should take your mouse with you somewhere, you will not need any drivers and/or software to be installed – everything will remain just the same! Now how cool is that?!
hmm, so i wonder will my logitech g5 be de-throned. we’ll see…
Personally, I think it has already been dethroned. This mouse is so impressive!!
Although die-hard Logitech fans will say that the G5 set the stage for many that came after it. That is also true.
bimmerboy79, the logitech g5 was dethroned before it even hit the market. First gen lasers were horrible for gaming. the mx518, mx500, mx 300, g1 and every Razer optical mouse all clearly outperform the g5 in terms of precision and clipping speeds… http://esreality.hexus.net/?a=longpost&id=1300293&page=5
There is a site and they have benchmarks for mice. The methodology is listed in the pages before the one I sent.
You should do some research before making uneducated comments. First gen lasers were not suitable for gaming, except for very casual. It did nothing except maybe introduce weights and make a lot of innocent people waste their hard earned cash.
This mouse looks awesome as it is comparably inexpensive for all the features it offers and is built by a reputable company. Thank you for the review. P.S. people actually like sideways scrolling?
Good points there stalin1g.
Some persons like horizontal scrolling but I think that it is more of an asset to those with smaller resolutions. With larger resolutions, there is really little or no need for it.
