Far Cry 2 Review
DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT (DRM)
Far Cry 2 uses SecuROM technology and the Digital Rights Management (DRM) states that the end user will be able to install the game five (5) times each on three (3) different computers. However, unlike some other instances there is a welcome twist. If the user uninstalls the game, it automatically revokes the activation.
Ubisoft says that they are committed to the long term support of their games and they add that users will always be able to play Far Cry 2. The publisher also said that additional activations can be provided if deemed necessary.
CONCLUSION
Far Cry 2 is a game that brings a lot of new things to the fore. Fire propagation is one of them and such a dynamic fire system has not been seen in PC gaming before. Open world gameplay has been around for a while now but the setting has never been so unique.
The visceral feel stays true to the game’s marketing. It really does put you inside the game and give you a higher level of realism. There is no HUD while playing. It is visible for just a few seconds at a time and only when absolutely necessary, which is very nice.
PROS:
– 50 square kilometres of open game world
– Realistic destructible environments
– Real-time night-and-day cycle
– Visceral, engaging gameplay
– Solid single player campaign (~30 hours) and enthralling multiplayer
– Scales well and runs easily on a variety of hardware configurations
– The Map Editor is among the best
CONS:
– Moving around the map can be a bit tedious at times
– Storyline could have been expanded a bit more
It does have flaws but which game doesn’t? The good thing is that Far Cry 2’s flaws really can be overlooked. A masterfully done game, with an entirely visceral feel to it. Go anywhere, do anything, with total freedom. Mercenary of life or death – it is all in your hands.
Far Cry 2 receives the Alien Babel Tech Editor’s Choice Award with an overall score of 8.5 out of 10.

The gun deterioration seems a little exaggerated judging from the pictures. A shiny pistol shouldn’t get that rusty unless the time frame the story takes place takes years to unfold.
Thanks for the analysis and overview.
I will agree with you on that but consider that the game doesn’t span over that length of time. Therefore, I think that Ubisoft implemented it that way just to add that extra realism even though the time frame isn’t quite right.
Thanks for the comment. It was my pleasure bringing it to you. Feel free to join the discussion in the forum, http://alienbabeltech.com/abt/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7313.
I thoroughly enjoyed Far Cry 2, even with the respawning.
Weapon degradation became a non-issue after you purchased guns and got durability upgrades. An infinite supply of brand new versions of any gun you’d previously purchased was available at any armory.
This info is invaluable. Where can I find out more?
