New iPhone casing leaked, Real or not? (9to5mac)
9to5mac.com broke this story today, and with these new pictures we seem to have the casing for the new iPhone. Of course, we don’t know if these pictures are even real. They look very similar to the Blackberry London style or the other Blackberry 10 developer phone. The headphone jack move is something new for Apple. The new photos also show the 30-pin connector is gone and replaced with a smaller jack. This seems to make room for a larger and improved speaker.
The photos if real, seem to show many new features of the new iPhone. A smaller dock connector is present, the earphone jack has been moved to the bottom corner of the device similar to the iPod touch models, the speaker has been revamped and most likely beefed up, and there is a new opening between the camera lens and the LED flash. It is possible that Apple is moving the second microphone for better audio capture. The iPhone 4 started shipping with two headphones awhile ago.
The best change seems to be the long rumored screen size increase to 4 inches. The form-factor of the phone seems to remain the same with the screen real estate being increased.
There are also photos of other iPhone parts, other than the black and white backs. The above two photos show a next-generation iPhone frame that holds the home button. According to 9to5mac’s supply chain, the frame indicates that the new iPhone will be the same width as the current 4 and 4S models, but it will be longer. This seems to coincide with past rumors. Sources say that the new iPhone’s interface will be redesigned to take advantage of the newly available screen real estate. The screen resolution is said to be 1136 x 640, with a screen size of 3.999 inches (diagonally)
What is possible is more rows for icons, a redesign of the app dock, and hopefully some form of widgets or quick information tool.
The front facing camera, “facetime camera” as Apple calls it, has been centered and moved above the earpiece.
One thing we hoped for was a gesture area instead of the home button on the phone. It is still practical, but multi-tasking needs to change along with many other things in iOS 6.
We would love to see quick access to information in some kind of form on our home screens. iOS has not changed much since its inception. They added some features such as a notification bar and lock screen shortcuts. But the icons are getting old, and something needs to change within the OS to prevent it from becoming very stale.
From the above photos, we can also deduce that the rumored edge-to-edge tech is not coming this generation, and that Apple is definitely testing these units with the Micro-SIM technology from the iPhone 4/4S (smaller SIMs – and even no SIMs – have been rumored).
What we haven’t heard of is the patented fingerprint removing technology that Apple has. This tech is supposed to be able to “vaporize” the screen in a way that all fingerprints or smudges are self removed by the device.
Some other things that might change is the processor, most likely a quad core as HTC and other manufactures have many coming to market. More improvements to Siri and LTE are also rumored.
We don’t know if these pictures are even real, they were leaked and posted by 9to5mac.com as seen here:
